If anyone has any ways to safely remove paint specks from records, please let me know. I found a copy of an old album at a flea market and it has some paint specks on one side.

you can remove the paint specks with paint thiner just dont get this on the label I would still list the record as in useable condition inless you have tested it your self the paint you cant see will still be in the groves.
if this is a 78 dont use the paint thiner as some of the older 78s are made of wax not plastic.only use it on the thin flexable records.

Thanks! I'll try that. I'm keeping this one. It's an old 12" disco record from the '70s that got lost in a move somewhere.
I was afraid that solvents might damage the LP. I'll try the thinner as soon as I can get some.

If you dont have the thiner if you have some rubbing Alcohol or witch hazel try this if the pain isnt tightly boned it will work just as well or evena small amount of nail poilsh remover.

I reserve one room in my apartment for Ebay merchandise, to sell later. The door is usually closed.
Now, I'll admit that this room is NOT pretty. Boxes and stuff are piled literally EVERYWHERE (You know what I mean, right?). It's even hard to walk in there.
Well, my 80-year-old landlord came in one day, unannounced, while I was out to eat. He wanted to paint some ugly stains on the ceiling with a spray gun.
The result was PAINT ALL OVER EVERYTHING! Several of my records, videos, collectibles, etc. were destroyed.
When I complained to him, his retort was, "I WENT KIND OF BERSERK AND SAID TO MYSELF, 'HOW CAN ANYBODY LIVE LIKE THIS? And since there was no room to set up a ladder, I sprayed from the ground."
Well, in sum, he graciously DID reimburse me for my losses.
The moral is this, folks: BEWARE OF EBAY CLUTTER--IT CAN DRIVE PEOPLE MAD!!

Paint thinner IS a slovent, but I don't think it will damage the vinyl...another option is "Goof-off"...looke for it in the paint section...this stuff will take new paint(dried) off of OLD paint, so I don't THINK it will damage the vinyl...please don't hold me to this tho!!

Any solvent even Goof Off or paint thinner will affect vinyl records. You may not see the damage but the fidelity will be affected.
Try a warm bath of dish washing detergent and water and let the records soak in it by hanging them so the lable doesn't get wet.
Don't use any abrasive cloth to loosen the paint after the bath. Try an old t-shirt.
