Hey, folks-
I have a really neat vintage dress that's made of silk and still has the store tags on it. It's in like new condition, but due to it's age it does need to be cleaned.
Would an experienced eBay clothier clean the item prior to listing? I'm asking because of the tag issue.

tex, I would leave the tags on the dress. Make sure you describe all the soiling on the dress when you sell it. If it's silk, you may make the problem worse if you try to clean it yourself.
I had an old silk sari from India that I tried to clean myself, and it actually ruined the silk.

It is sooo hard to take stains out of silk without water spotting and water spots can be even harder to remove that the original stain.
If the item has no stains and just needs to be freshened you can try one of the home drycleaning methods. They will make the item look and smell good and it doesn't damage the fabric. You can carefully remove the tag and then replace it when you are done. We did even forget to remove the store tag on one garment and it came out fine.
