Earlier this weekend I was high bidder on a $8.00 item. Received the Seller's EOA which reguired payment to be received in ten days, a highly unlikely event given the recent performance of USPS. Not only that but they required a MO for this major purchase. AND they stated, that they only ship twice a week: Tuesday and Saturday.

My response to them stated that I would get them a MO but that I only went to the bank on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

That felt better.

And if that MO doesn't get there in 10 days, well I can neg as well as they can.

Bill--
I also ask for 10 day payment in my auctions, but that certainly doesn't imply that I will leave a NEG in 10 days! It means please don't dawdle around for weeks, that's all. I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about this. It's a guideline, not carved in stone.

Er, how am I as a buyer supposed to know if 10 days is a "guideline, not carved in stone" or an absolute time window after which one might get negged?

However, I have to say I am just ignoring these limits for the most part. I always pay within a reasonable time. In the last 6 months I have been late with payments twice - once was when we had a major family crisis causing me to take 2 weeks to mail a payment, and the other was when my e-mail service went south and rejected a seller's e-mail causing me to not get his notifications. (I changed providers after that so it wouldn't happen again.) I only mail payments once a week and if someone wants an MO I have to work a trip to the post office into my schedule, which is not easy.

The weirdest one so far was a person in Australia who wanted payment from the US within 10 days and did not take paypal or credit cards. I can tell you right now that unless you pay big bucks for mailing, nothing gets from the US to Australia in 10 days. Maybe 10 business days, if you're lucky. (Edited to add, at least not MY part of the US - I'm on east coast - I don't know how fast California people can get it there.)

I never had one, and I didn't want one, and I don't, so now I do...

netlawhopeful ... "Er, how am I as a buyer supposed to know if 10 days is a "guideline, not carved in stone" or an absolute time window after which one might get negged?"

I avoid these auctions completely for that very reason. I had a seller brutally neg me, and return my money order because his TOS said 10 days and it took 12 days to get there!

As most of my deals are "International" (I'm in Canada and many US sellers still consider me and my countrypeople foreigners!), it is impossible to guarantee payment in the seller's hands within 10 days ...

There's plenty of sellers out there who are willing to wait over 10 days for payment (not months).

Bill ... how's the head this morning ... does this hurt? ... HI BILL

ACTUALLY.....I think it is a good idea to only ship 2 days of the week. For me, since I started on Ebay 6 months ago, and started at only a couple of products a month, that has increased quite a bit, and to run to the post office every day, takes away from other aspects of the business. If I did not have a general timeline for things, ie: Payment received in 10 days, respond to eoa within 3 days, etc.(as Ebay suggests) this would drag many of the transactions out forever. I know for me, my Ebay stuff has spread to many rooms of the house, since I do not have the space. Getting the product out in a timely manner is just good business, and shipping on designated days works well for my shopping days to replenish supplies. I will start implementing 2 days for shipping after the holidays. Now it is just get it out the door as fast as possible, because bids have been super!

Normally 10 day peroid to get a payment in the mail from nearly anywhere inside the USA shouldnt be that hard to do at all.

The real thing these sellers that ask this have to remember is that the 10 days has to start after you have the money order made out and ready to send not the min the auction ends.

I am a seller and cant imagine someone getting an end of auction notice from me around 10 PM of 12 AM telling them I require payment in ten days.

they would have to run out right then to find an all night store that sells money orders and a 24/7 postoffice to mail that payment out right then to really garentee that kind of dead line and then there could be no holidays inbetween when the PO dont ship or deliver.
