Actually, friends allow friends to vote their own conscience, whether they agree or not, and don't resort to snide remarks.

Then be sure and vote for Gore so we don't get anymore idiots like Rehnquist, Thomas, or Scalia on the Supreme Court.
Imagine a 5 seat majority made of these type of morons.

So much for refraining from snide remarks.
Does any of you actually think that these types of statements do anything but alienate your audience? (I'm assuming, of course, that you're not just attacking the other side for entertainment, but that you want to convince people to vote "your" way.)
Or do you actually respect your fellow voters so little that you consider calling them names an appropriate behavior?

No, in a perfect world, we would have the system of checks and balances envisioned by our forefathers. The two houses of Congress would pass bills, the President would either veto or sign them into law, and then the Supreme Court would rule on the constitutionality of those laws by interpreting the constitution. Some Americans would like to skip the first 2 steps and have the Supreme Court write the laws. This isn't the way our system works and hopefully my vote will help ensure that it stays that way.
Abortion and gun control are not the real issues here. You would probably be surprised that I very likely agree with you on both of these issues. But the larger and more important issue is maintaining the integrity of our constitution and system of government.

Obviously you haven't read the Constitution, or Justice Marshall's ruling that settled your argument long ago. You also seem to not know what Scalia and company stand for- it is surely not what you describe.
A pure majoritarian democracy is just as bad as a dictatorship. The Federal Judiciary is the only protection the minority have against majority mob rule. If left to Clarence Thomas and company and their traitorous "states rights" doctrines, there will be many of our fellows that would suffer horribly. But that is exactly why many racists and bigots want a "conservative" Court.
