As I dredge thru my inventory, I'm finding quite a few tins (old cookie, candy, crayon, etc) that I've been thinkin' of using to ship other small items...Of course, I would cover these in brown shipping paper & careful pack the item inside...It seems like a nice alternative to throwin' these things away OR fillin' them with cookies, buttons, whatevers....They are nice & sturdy & would provide good protection, & a bonus "gift" for the customers.....Want do you all think of this idea???

Great idea! I was going to do it with some old Christmas tins but the lids are too hard to remove. But newer tins with easy to remove lids would be fun to get in a package.

Do you have one big enough to put my mother-in-law in? I'm looking for something to ship her home in.

One of the first purchases I made on ebay arrived in a tin...made a nice sturdy "box".

You can ship in most anything. I bought several boxes of freezing containers this summer for $1 or less. I was selling some costume jewelry and had a low shipping fee. I was rummaging trying to find a few lightweight boxes amonst all ( NO boxes get tossed here ). I make sure you can't tell what is in the package, Tape it securely around the edges and top and bottom. Voila'. A nice neat lightweight low cost package with the shipping address sealed beneath the taping. Now, tins? Hmmmmmmmmm I collect them *L* I'd be hard pressed to part with mine, but, for the ones I don't collect, and doubt will really sell.... I LIKE IT!!!! Of course, wouldn't you know it. I pretty much gave away 40 of them this summer at a yard sale, trying to get rid of things.

I had many tins, both collected, and some bought for about 5 cents each. I ask at the post office, and they said it was a great idea- NO NEED to wrap in paper, they said. If it is priority, I just tape around the top to seal it well. If it is first class, I use clear tape. Sometimes I fill out my address label and just hot glue it on, leaving room for the postal stamp; other times i just use clear tape to attatch the label. Most consider this tin an 'extra', as they can put the tin to use! I find myself looking for cheap ones at yard sales now, even tho the USPS 'provides' priority boxes. It is just a neat idea!! Our dollar store sells that 'non-skid' rubber drawer liner stuff?...a roll for a dollar- works well in wrapping delicate things and costs no more, in the long run, than other packing materials. I save everything, except stuff from my KITCHEN garbage can, to use- as long as it is clean. Empty towel rolls are good to pad sides of boxes, and toilet paper rolls imprison electrical cords so well! Ain't we ebaqyers great? Sooo inovative...love to recycle! I love this board!

Used pizza boxes works good for shipping stuff, too. You just have to watch out for ants.
