Looking for a good source to buy foldable boxes to ship books via bookrate mail. Would prefer the flat multisize (different folding creases) cardboard boxes that can accomodate books of different sizes.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Greg - I am sorry I don't have the name of the company at hand, but I was told about a place to get bulk orders of boxes by a used bookstore owner in town. He sells on the Internet bookstore sites and uses boxes a lot. Maybe if you have a secondhand bookseller in your town they could give you a tip on good local or mailorder sources?

Look into "b-flute" which is rolls of corrugated singleface cardboard. Can be found in rolls of 12 and 18 inches wide.
All you do is put the book in a plastic bag for moisture protection, then roll it in the b-flute, staple the ends of the [packet and apply the label. It can handle 99% of the books a typical seller sells for a tiny price. If a book is extra fragile, I do a pre-wrap in a soda flat, then use the b-flute as the outer wrapper.

Check with Bags Unlimited. They have an assortment of items to ship or preserve LPs, comic books, etc. Perhaps they have what you are looking for.

Hi, Greg -
uline.com has a huge assortment of boxes and other packaging material - you might check there.
I like abacaxi's suggestion about the corrugated rolls - I have not used that, but have considered buying some. I've received books in it, and it worked nicely. So far, we have used cut-in-half soda flats (and similar flats) for most of our books; they are strong when taped well, but it is time-consuming to cut them to size.

Amen to abacaxi's b-flute advice. One thing not mentioned is that once you staple the ends down the book is essentially frozen in place and damage to the book is very unlikely. In boxes there is a much higher risk of damage. Also, once you get the hang of it, using b-flute is FAST--a matter of less than a minute spent in fully packaging a book--and CHEAP.

Why not just go to a box company, have a die made, produce and store the inventory. We bought over 5,000 pcs. years ago and are just using this great find now! Cheap, brown cardboard. Die cost varies, or they may have one in stock.

I just went through finding something to wrap books in and would love to get some B-Flute. Where can you order that? Sounds great.
Thanks for any info.

Try ULine. They have an 800 #. You can buy coregated cardboard by the roll that you can cut to fit each book - good protection and cheap, too!

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. The past year I have been using primarily priority USPS mail and they are getting a little pricey. I have also found that if the shipping cost is reasonable, the bids on the books go higher. I will check into the sites mentioned and also investigate the b-flute angle. It is sure a great thing to have supportive help from all of you. Thanks again!!

that stuff *is* cheap. veripack.com, boxes, misc corrugated, single face corrugated roll - 12 inches by 250 feet - 1 roll for $11.50, price goes down for multiple rolls. if you assume 2 ft per book, that's something like 10 cents per book (before figuring in veripack shipping charge).

http://www.veripack.com sounds good, BUT you can't get to the shipping charges without going through the whole "registration" process.
It makes comparison shopping impossible, and they do not have a visible contact address to ask any questions. I guess you have to register (and risk a lifetime of spam fomr them) in order to ask a question.
I'm going to try the 800 number and point out that they need to make shipping charges visible so the person can see what the order MIGHT cost without signing up.

I have never gotten spam from Veripack. It has been nothing but great with them. Fast shipping, fair prices..they even overcharged me once and refunded it PDQ.
The best that I have encountered. And there is a phone number on the front page in the green bar 1-800-388-4344
