Once in a while I get a payment that is short. Recently, I received a check for $10.30 for a $10.49 sale. Of course, I'm a nasty Grinch and made her pay the other 19-cents! But my question is this: why is it when this happens, the "accidental" amount is always less than the price? I maen, with odds being even, one-half the time the accidental amount ought ot be an overpayment -- not always an underpayment. Why is this?

Thank goodness, there is a bright side : It is not uncommon for some buyers to add something to the payment, if bid is grossly under-priced...I personally know some.
Of course, we only notice what comes our way: If one only gets UNDER-payments, one does not know about OVER-payments..

I had one customer include extra for a soda. She was really nice and asked me to have a soda while packing her item up nicely.
Obviously, I took extra special care with her package! Sometimes the little things make a huge difference. Her note really made me smile and remember why I was doing this hobby.

I get about 10 overpayments a week. Sometimes people send cash, and don't want to include change so they round it up.
I always try to remember to return the overpay.
When people over pay a penny or so on a money order or check, (to round it up) I usually let it go.
I always wonder if they expect their money back though.
In about 3 years I have only gotten 2 underpayments. And they were for EXACT pastage amounts. Yes, sometimes when special packaging time was needed I do tack on a handling charge. These people choose not to pay it. Depending upon my mood is how fast I choose to send their package.

I've only had 1 erroneous payment in about 300 sales. The person did it deliberately because at the bottom of the auction I said "Winner agrees to pay $3.20 for Priority Shipping". (It was a set of audio tapes that needed to be put inside a box or they'd get crushed. ) They sent me $1.13 which would have been the exact amount for sending it Book Rate without the extra box to protect it. I was ticked off because if it got crushed I'm sure he'd have expected to get his money back. I felt like writing him and saying "Hey fella... read the listing and see that by bidding you agreed to send the higher amount." I have NO problem sending stuff bookrate if asked. But this NEEDED the extra. So I decided to just take the loss and let it go. My reputation is worth more than $2.07 and who knows when someone will turn out to be a freak that will leave you a negative for something petty? So I didn't even say a word. But I'm sure thinking one!!! And it 'aint nice!
