I am probably just being a nervous Nellie but I am having a problem about how to proceed. Here's the problem: I won an auction last night and was going to pay with Paypal. This morning, I received what I think is the winning confirmation from the seller but it contained an attachment. Here is where the problem starts. Before I opened the email I noticed that the email had an attachment to it. I never (and I mean never) open an email from someone that I don't know with a download attached. Anyway, after I received the email, I contacted the seller and told him that I don't open emails with attachments and to please resend me the final totals on the item (but not as a download). He has not replied to my email. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

No, you are not over reacting. Never open attachments in your email, especially if it is from someone you don't know. There is a new macro virus that is sent in an attached Word file.

Nicely explain that you will need a plain text email from the seller. It could be that they are unaware that they are sending this attachment, some viruses are like that.

What was the extension of the attachment? .doc, or .exe?

Thanks for taking the time to reassure me. When I open my email program, it shows an icon of a tiny page on the left side. If there is an attachment to the email, the page icon has another page(?)on top of the other one. (Hard to explain an icon.) When I see that icon and it is not from someone I know, I usually delete it. I haven't deleted the email but I am not going to open it. I am concerned if the seller sends only this kind of invoice that we will be having a definite problem communication.

I would get an virus scan of download.com or softseek.com or somwhere and scan the e mail 1st! Then if the updated virus checker oks it then open it! make shure that the virus checker is updated if you have an old one its just as good as not having one at all!
