This may come across as one silly thread.

But instead of building a new site to compete with eBay, how much would it cost to buy enough stock to make a difference in the eBay organization?

Posters here state that they would be willing to put up $1000 toward a new site. Perhaps a pool to buy eBay stock?

I have not clue about this stuff; and, as aforementioned, it might be foolish! I'm curious though...

Once you buy enough stock to have any influence in how ebay is run you may find you don't want to do anything that may adversely affect the bottom line

This reminds me of the thread started less than a month ago in the Yahoo forum.

Curious, what is the eBay equation - like you posted about Yahoo?

Sure. With the suggested co-op dues of $100, we would only need about 300 million people to get together - slightly more than the entire population of the U.S.

EBay:

Shares outstanding (Oct. 23): 268,897,000

Market price today: $46

Cost to acquire 51% control: $6.3 billion
