Hey everybody! Need some assistance please. Had an auction to close successfully - after confirmation from high bidder, I then get an e-mail saying they can't afford to pay for the item - has run into some financial problems - OH WELL! There was a reserve high bidder. Please tell me what steps to take to offer it to reserve high bidder. On YooHoo - that process was very simple - all I had to do was "remove" high bidder and it was automatically offered to reserve high bidder (no obligation)...is eBay this easy? Please give me steps to offer to reserve high bidder! Thanks ever so much!!

Cape,

You can't remove the high bidder on Ebay, leaving the high bidder the 2nd highest bidder.

All you can do is offer the item to the 2nd highest bidder.

However, this bidder is under no obligation to purchase this item from you.

Also, since they are not the high bidder, neither one of you can post feedback for each other.

I've read some other messages on this board of bidders getting ripped off by agreeing to purchase as the second highest bidder. Therefore, you might not get an enthusiastic response from the 2nd high bidder.

But that's how if works...not the best system, but..your other option is to file for NBP, then for FVC, and then relist

At least try to offer it to the second bidder. I have had great success with that approach. There is also an option on the NPB form or the request for refund form where you can indicate that the item was offered to the second bidder. Ebay returns the difference between the two fees. Done this way, you cannot be trouble with eBay for an attempt to avoid paying fees. I have actually never had a second bidder refuse! So try it. It can not hurt.
