Does anyone else hate the ad for the FREE AIRLINE TICKETS that blink. It is giving me a headache to look at that.

I prefer the coffeeam.com ad. It does not blink.

HELP! AW! GET RID OF THAT AD OR GET ONE THAT DOES NOT BLINK!

Hi Trey,

I'll pass on your thoughts to the AW people who make those decisions. In the meantime, trying hitting "escape" - it will stop the blinking.

Dear AW--yep, Trey is right, that airline ticket ad was so annoying that it finally provoked me into doing something I really didn't want to do--I downloaded adsubtract.

I would never click on such an annoying ad, just on principle. But I did try to click on other ads occasionally to support AW (I even made a couple of purchases that way). But the airline ad was just too much.

So now the annoying ad is gone. Unfortunately, for sites that earn $ from click-thrus, so are all the others.

MichelleG: Thanks for that advice. I will try that.

psyllie: What is adsubtract?

Trey: www.adsubtract.com It's a free program that deletes banner ads from web sites. I learned about it right here on AW! I'm afraid I don't know much about it, but it was easy to download and it worked. Seems to have speeded things up some for me, too -- I live in a rural area with a very slow phone line.

My question,

How does it know that some of the pics are ads? What if a website had a banner at the top linking to another page on their site. I would like to know how it works. Anyone know?

I think perhaps you should start a new thread if you really want to know how that program works. It is probable that the person who is really an expert on that program would not look at this particular thread.

How does it know that some of the pics are ads?

It reads the web address of the picture and blocks it if it comes from a known advertiser. You also have the ability to add new ones to the software. For instance, it will block ads that come from any of the following servers:

linkexchange.com
linkshare.com
ad.doubleclick.net
ads.looksmart.com
clickexchange.com

...as well as many others.

Hi Trey...

If you are using IE 5.5, you can turn off the animations.

Under Tools
Click on Internet Options
Click on Advanced
Scroll down and uncheck (turn off) Play Animations
Click Apply

It stops all of the blinking ads from...well...blinking.
