I need some opinions, is paying duplicate listing fees to list the same item in 2 categories worth the cost?? I have done it and I cannot say that it has increased sales or traffic. I realized that when I wanted to find an item, I did a general search, not a search specific to a category. So, my item would be found if I listed in one category or in 2. Example: if I am listed a Madame Alexander composition doll and put all of those words in the title, why spend the extra money listing in both Mde Alex category and compo doll category. The doll would show up in any search if the buyer puts in these key words. Opinions, please with all of the raising costs, I would like to save a little without cutting sales potential. Thanks.

It depends on the item. If you have trouble deciding between two different categories, then it is probably a good idea to put it in both; otherwise, list it in one.

I can tell you from experience, that I do better listing in double categories. When I buy too, I use the categories, then do a search under that category. Hope this helps.

I think it does help if there are several categories your item could go in. I think some buyers tend to just do searches in certain categories rather than a global search of the whole auction site. I've started using 2 categories for a lot of my stuff, but I've also changed my auction end day from Sunday to Monday, so don't know which has helped get higher prices!

It depends. I did a mini-test on it during free listing day, and discovered that for some things it doubled traffic (more hits = more bids, I figure). On others, which would be in a large category or for which bidders would search rather than browse, it had little effect. You need to consider all the factors. Like if you have a reserve plus a high reserve, those doubled fees can really add up. I don't consider it worth it for low dollar items.
