My weekend for questions.

I've been going through my books this weekend and deciding which to put on half.com, which to eBay separately and which to put in a box lot and get rid of. I came across a copy of The Jolly Roger which is copyright 1928 by Milton Bradley Co., Springfield Mass. and printed by Bradley Quality Books.

Does anyone know if this is/was a division of the Milton Bradley Toy Company that we all know and love?

Milton Bradley company started in Springfield, Mass in the mid 1800's as a printer. The first game they ever produced was invented by Mr. Milton Bradley and called The Game of Life. If I remember correctly it was a "rags to riches" story. Business was so bad, they had no orders for printing so he pulled out his notes from a game he invented and started producing it to give the workers something to do. The game became such a hit it saved the company. They expanded the company and began publishing books. (mostly children's books) During the early 1900's the game business grew as they added more and more titles to their line. Around the mid 1930's they stopped publishing books. (or sold the book division)

So, to answer your question, yes it is/was the same company.

"The Jolly Roger - Stories for Boys" about $25 to $30

MrJim: Thank you! That is an interesting story and I appreciate the time you took to let me know. I would be thrilled to get $5 for this book, much less $25-$30. I guess I will get busy and list it.

I have been on a "clean out and get things listed" weekend. I was highly motivated by receiving a $650 electric bill in Friday's mail. Our normal electric bill is about $150, so this was quite a shocker. On the other hand, our usual $35 water bill was only $14. I guess I need to try to look on the bright side.
