I sold a high price item to a guy who was slow to pay the first time. He bid on the item again (I had another one to list) and he won. It has been over a month and he has not paid. I sent him a reminder and he said, "I always pay you, know that". Then he went on to explain he is in Europe right now and he would pay me right away. He has been back two weeks and still no payment.

I was contacted by another seller who was stiffed by him. He bid on the same item. Turns out he bids on these items and has not paid. They are leaving him negative feedbacks right and left.

The owner of this item wants me to relist the item.

My question is: How long should I give this guy to pay?

Thanks for listening.

Hi Popnrock,

I personally file for my NPB alert on the 11th day after the auction ends and then give them 10 more days to pay. If they do not pay by the 20th day, I file for my FVF's, relist the item and NEG the loser.

Seems to me you've waited long enough for this guy to pay. Start the NPB & FVF process and if he really intends to pay you he'll pay you immediately after getting the NPB alert from ebay.

File the non-pay bidder alert now and file for the final value credit 10 days later. Then re-list.

I would not allow this to go on for too long, and after 45 days you will not even be able to file for the final value credit. He probably knows that. If he gets 4 he is NARU. If he strings you on long enough, you can't file.

I have the same thing happening to me...she has bought from me before and now she is slow paying and says, "I have contacted you already.." But no payment yet.

This weekend she said, "I will pay by using ProPay right now." Well..no payment.

Angers me..because I could have sold that item to someone else from my website..but thought it was already sold on Ebay.

Doggone NPB..Ebay should enforce their rules a little better.

Always remember that as the seller the item is yours until you send it to the buyer. That helps keep me even tempered when I have to deal with a dead beat bidder who tries to string me along. I have a number of emails that I send to these people and I keep copies in case I have to send proof of their bad deal to safe harbor.

When the money hasn't arrived within 10 days I send out a "Is your payment lost of overlooked" notice with a request for an immediate answer. With no reply I send notice #2 that unless I hear from them immediately I must conclude that they do not plan on completeing our transaction and will proceed to file NPB and request FVF. Since eBay gives them another 10 days to pay me I still have to wait out that 10 days. SO I can tell them the FVF will be filed in 10 days if their payment doesn't arrive. It shows safe harbor that I have bent over backward to be patient and fair. If that doesn't get results I then file for my FVF and send a letter to the deadbeat telling them they are no longer permitted to bid on any of my auctions and send a carboncopy of all these emails to Safe Harbor.

The result of this action gives the dead beat a point towards being suspended 3 points=suspension and 4 points = NARU. Far more effective than anger and frustration. If they have made many fancy promises and multiple excuses I say this in my Negative feedback for them. An example of one is "Friendly emails creative excuses and promises NO PAYMENT."

Good response popn ---- so logical and the guidelines of ebay are quite easy to follow( although I think some of the time limits are a little long, however; not complaining) I likewise just file the appropriate form at the given time and get on with it....too much other stuff to do as it is.
