The last few days I have been on a buying spree. Little auctions but many of them. This can be regarded as "market research" or so I tell myself.

When I start selling again I will remember that customer service is indeed important. It is so much easier for the customer to have the "Instant Purchase" option available. Also, notification to the customer as soon as the auction is over. I am still waiting after I contacted the seller for total amount due on one of the auctions.

Does anyone have other ideas about how to make a deal more gratifying to the buyer?

Customers appreciate a quick email letting them know when you receive their payment & when their item is shipped. (Not all sellers can do this, but I find it to be a nice touch.)

Well, for me, Instant Payment is not a big deal. I sell mostly, but do buy too. I don't want to be able to "Pay Instantly", but I do like being able to write a check. I'll get a money order, since they are easy for me to get, but do prefer paying via personal check. This helps me in my household bookkeeping, and also means I can have payment in the mail by the next business day.

How to keep the deal good for me as a buyer? Write a complete description, be honest about the item, and don't try to make money on the shipping charge. Since I also sell, I know how much it costs to ship stuff.

Package the item well so I get in one piece. I'll note that in my feedback for you, as well as prompt shipment.

Send me clear, easy to understand end of auction emails. Don't make me fill out an online form. If there are shipping options, make it clear in your totals. Don't threaten me for feedback, I leave feedback for 99% of my sellers and buyers. If you are the 1% I don't leave any for, it's because you threatened me or yelled at me in your emails.
