There are always rants here about people getting rubber checks. This is the first one for myself giving one!
To make a long story short, I miscalculated the Checking account fees that are charged at the beginning of each month, and left my account a few cents short to cover the last check I used to pay for an eBay purchase, and boing!, the check bounced.
As soon as I found out about this, I emailed the seller to tell her about this, and to offer her to send a Money Order ASAP, plus any of her bank fees incurred. She got back to me and told me that I needed not to send her anything, and that the matter was to be settled via the AAFES (the Army Air Force Exchange System), paying the check amount ($30.00) plus any bounced check fees associated with it.
Has anyone has heard of this before?
What are the normal bank fees for bounced checks on the receiving end? I already paid my bank $25.00 for it, and I don't want to pay some exorbitant $50.00 charge just because someone is cashing my check for her.

Last December I received an email from one of my customers apologizing for the problem with the check. I responded and asked her if there was something I should know. Apparently the check she had sent me bounced for her, but for me the funds were covered. I never received a notice from my bank about her check, and the money was credited to my account.
You may want to find out if your bank eventually covered your check. Otherwise you might pay twice, plus pay the bank bad check fee.

It sounds like the seller is in the service and cashed the check at the PX on base and they take care of collecting from the issuer.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

preacher4u,
I have deleted your post with the emails in them. The CG's require when posting personal emails that we have permission from the sender and receiver before posting.
It would be okay to just explain what was in the email without doing a copy and paste.

Uh, sorry, Joice. I didn't knew. Was that a new entry into the CG's? 'Cause I've seen lots of copy/pasted emails on threads before w/o them being moderated.
On topic, what I want to know is how much should be considered reasonable fees.

Most banks redeposit the NSF check after bouncing, at least once- so, now that you have it covered, it will go through. If I remember correctly, my bank charged me $5.00 to redeposit a NSF check. Shouldn't be that bad.
Maybe you should get "overdraft protection", if you have a savings account in the same bank- then you would never have to worry about it...course, there's a fee from your bank if this should occur, but not a biggie.
