Just wondering if anyone has noticed any difference on auctions where they display the counters or not. I'm curious if bidders are more likely to bid if they can see how many other people have been looking at the item up for sale...

As a former heavy bidder and now a light bidder since I've begun selling, I can tell you that the bid counters were significant information for me. Sometimes it alerted me to an item that may have experienced bidders or snipers lurking for last-minute bids, and I adjusted my bidding accordingly.
Chiefly, in areas I didn't know much about, sometimes an item that has had almost no lookers tells me the item may not be in demand or it may show up some time in the future because it's relatively common.

They've been helpful to me because I've learned how to create sales that attract attention by seeing which ones get a high count.

I can't tell you how many counters have kept me from seeing an auction because they won't come up (the provider is over whelmed and won't respond). Unless the counter provider is extremely good, IMO they can cost you.
Most of my problems have been with Honesty counters.

Thanks for your responses. I was curious. I have found counters to be useful as a buyer too. I was trying to decide whether or not to display the counters on the few auctions that I do run. The information about the number of hits I get is useful since it tells me if my titles are attracting attention.
Now if I could only get people to bid...
I was trying to decide if an item getting lots of hits but few bids would discourage people from bidding or encourage them to bid. I guess it really depends on how well informed the buyer is about the item he/she is looking at...

I put counters on all my auctions because I wanted to see how many people looked at my auctions.
Wow, I was shocked. I run about 200 auctions per month. The average viewing for one of my auctions is 20 to 50 hits. Some had like 200 and 300. I had about 8,000 hits on my auctions in the past 30 days. That is a lot of people looking at my auctions. That means I get about 1 sale for every 50 people that view my auction.
