Is this happening more to me lately, or across the board?

A buyer send payment, but fails to pay for shipping. In my last three, I have had two fail to send me $2, and one fail to send me 55 cents (for a $2 item!)

I wait until I receive payment for shipping to mail. What should I do with the payments I've been holding from an auction that ended in November. . .

Seems this is happening so much more often lately. Is this a scam buyers are trying to get a discount or are they just dumb when it comes to knowing what "total" means.

Read the threads. Buyers don't want to pay extra for anything. Pretty soon, they'll be considering it a favor to you to even send payment for the final bid amount.

...or are they just dumb when it comes to knowing what "total" means.

Try charging $0.05 over the actual postage on the package and you'll have your answer to that question.

I would (and have) sent the buyer a thank you email for the quick payment, and let them know that I will hold thier item for pick-up in (your city) to please give me at least a weeks notice as to when they will be in town so we can arrange a place and time convenient to meet. Any item unclaimed in 30 days will be deemed forfiet and resold without refund, and appropriate feedback left.
If they would like the item shipped somewere to please remit the postage specified.

Yeah, I made a 1¢ mistake on calculating shipping one time, and did I hear it! LOL! Whoever said a penny isn't worth anything was not an ebay buyer.

Good idea on the pick up the item. . . My last three bidders who have tried thishave been from Texas, Florida, and Iowa. When we're talking $2 or less for shipping, I don't think its that excessive. I've had bidders thank me for having such reasonable shipping. Wish everyone could see it that way. *sigh*

Oh, well, more stuff to relist.

To date they have responded with, "oh I forgot the shipping, I miss added, etc..." hard to believe as the total was in the WBN, and they've sent a M/O for the difference.
I suppose for those afraid of being accused of stealing if they resold the Item, you could just state that after 30 days it will be donated to charity "X" in thier name and the receipt sent to them.

Keep the money.

My terms state that if you don't send the full amount, you get ONE email asking for the difference plus a service charge of $1. If it's not paid after 10 days then a fee of $1 per month will be deducted from the amount until it is depleated. If at any point you ask for a refund, there is an additional chage of $5 to process that refund.

I have to admit after 200+ auctions as a buyer, I forgot to include shipping on an item this last week. The seller sent me an email today. I was so embarrassed, I emailed the seller an apology and sent a check for $5.00 to cover the $1.90 shipping and the inconvenience my mistake caused.

I misread both the EOA notice the seller sent me and the PO I printed from my auction tracking software.

Some days it just doesn't pay to get up.

gjsi is an ideal bidder. Praise you...

Most bidders who forget to send shipping or pay the wrong amount just send the rest after and thats fine with me.

Some seem to get offended when I email them. They feel I should send the item and just forget about it.

One time a bidder forgot to send shipping and she took 3 months to pay for it! I was not mad. I just held the item for her. It does not bother me much as long as the bidder sends the full ammount in; eventually.

this is one of the biggest pains when you take paypal. i've had dozens of people send monies short on the shipping or sometimes no shipping at all. email them and it's oh sorry i didn't think about shipping, so add the ebay fees and 2x on the paypal fees and you make??? less than you thougt you were going to.

I have had this happen once. I had a bidder only pay $9.95 instead of $14.90. I just shipped the item first class instead of Priority.

OK..how about this one...one of my high bidders paid for the shipping and not the bid amount. Go figure. I brought it to their attention and told them I could not ship until receiving the bid amount and they apologized and sent another check to cover their bid amount.

I've just had the buyer from hell. Auction states clearly money order only, winners emails states clearly money order only, she emails asking to pay with paypal, I reply within the hour, payment by money order only. She mails US cash for a $3.99 item and includes 8 US quarters which my bank won't accept. When I ask her to send $2 in notes and not demand a money order as I had stated in the auction, to try and resolve it easily, she demands I either pay to send her money back myself or find somewhere that WILL cash it! Since then she has sent threatening abusive emails, made up a false complaint to square trade and when she recieved the item in perfect condition without sending me any further money she has the nerve to give me negative feedback.....I am angry to say the least. I sent her the item to avoid further problems with her and she gives me negative feedback, when she failed not only to follow my TOS but send the right money to me either. She's got the item AND half price shipping!
