I just won a bid on USPS (United States Postal Service) Ebay sales for 11 wall hang pictures. The biggest one is 9 1/4 by 11 1/4 with the rest being smaller, 6 are only 3 in. x 3 in.

I know this is my fault for not looking but the S+H is $20.90!!!!!!!!!!

(Save your breath telling me I should have checked first. I ALREADY ADMITTED THAT)

I figured it would be about $8-10.

These AREN'T HUGE FRAMED items.

I bid $29.00 and they want $20.90 S+H.

I know I'll catch heat because it was in the auction but for petes sake.

They get the stuff for FREE when THEY lose it and the postage was ALREADY PAID by the person that shipped and lost the item.

They couldn't ASK for a better PROFIT MARGIN and they are the POST OFFICE.

WHY DO THEY CHARGE SO MUCH FOR SHIPPING!!??!!?

Do They give negative feedback when you deadbeat on them?

And, you'd better buy insurance, too, or you will be SOL when they lose it again. Read their feedback and see how they respond to lost shipments.

I don't know. I really don't want to stiff them. After all I did bid and win.

I'm torn. $20.90!!!!!!!!! MAN!!

Maybe I'll bite the bullet and pay for this one but I sure won't bid in the future.

I just think it's such a RIP. Shipping was already paid on these items ONCE.

I'm not saying I want free shipping just REASONABLE shipping.

I find it real interesting that when a seller tries to say they are not responsible for delivery if the customer refuses insurance the people here on AW always say nope - can't do that. But here we have the post office doing that very thing. Anyone care to comment on it? Will they be sued?

I asked my postmaster about that. He told me that with the new POS postal recipts, which show city state and zipcode on them. That you would meet the burden of proof if taken to court, as long as the date of payment and date of shipping dates were close together. Basically I was told to save all my POS recipts because they ARE a suitable form of Proof of mailing if you are taken to court. I keep hearing different, and have really questioned it myself, but maybe my postmaster was right, expecially with this new info I have just read.

"Bottom line: If you don't want to pay the sellers shipping don't buy the item."

Those words sound familiar, Whinecooler? They were your words on a very recent thread. You did not seem to agree with buyers who complained about shipping rates.

Now you come here all upset? Hmmm......

Just an observation.

Do not like the shipping charge? Just don't send the money for the auction you won, they will give you a neg and file for final value fee refund and you will be their shipping fee and your bid amount richer. That is what a lot of buyers do when they are not happy with the tos from a buyer! Why be different? Do what everyone else is doing, be a none paying bidder.

I've already owned up to not checking on the shipping before bidding and I told you to save your breath.

I'm not going to stiff them. I was just VERY surprised when I went to pay for a $29.00 win and saw a total of $49.90.

I've shipped alot of stuff and $20.00 will ship heavy package.

I think it is VERY HIGH. Especially when you consider my two other points.

1. They got the stuff for FREE.

2. Somebody already paid them shipping in the first place.

I also have trouble figuring out how in the world they end up with so much mechandise when most packages have TWO VALID ADDRESSES on them.

There are two things I do before I bid. #1 See if it an item I want and #2 the shipping charge. If the shipping charge is double or triple the S/H amount I back out immediately. I was really surprised, well more like shocked when I saw their shipping charge. You would think they could use actual shipping charge or maybe even free. I prefer free but I know that will never happen. Do they charge extra for insurance? Just recently I ran an auction on a BIN. My S/H was actual shipping of $3.00 when I noticed an identical item and that shipping was $8.00. Now tell me is that excessive. There is nothing that important to pay those outrageous shipping charges. We must when we see those charges back out and not bid and maybe sellers will get the idea. I will not gouge my buyers on S/H.

Since shipping on every item they sell has already been paid by the person they lost it for and their cost is FREE meaning it's PURE PROFIT, you would think they could come up with a more palettable rate.

It is a big rip off! I was very surprised to see them selling on ebay in the first place.
For the record I feel bad for you. :0)

Can you post their user ID on eBay, if allowed. I would like to look at their auctions.

Would the POS stand up in court when the seller is the USPS? THEY ARE THE SHIPPERS as well as the sellers... If their system lost it, aren't they responsible for their own goods? Especially when they are charging so bloody much for shipping?

I stand amazed, incredulous...
