How will AW's announcement affect eBay?

I heard that it's due to all the problems that the new email system is supposedly causing as CNET reported that it was causing problems w/ a lot of spam filters.

Personally though I like the new system as it allows you to email a seller within second and not have to worry about opening up outlook, copy and pasting the item #, etc.

I also saw this on the news. The reason is people simply cannot bid on your items, and sellers are jumping ship. Better add your email addy in the item description if you wanna sell.

chum-

The link you provided described how some buyers were having trouble contacting sellers, but I didn't see any indication that "people simply cannot bid on your items". Do you have a source for that claim?

Yes, it allows you to e-mail sellers with a click ~ I guess this is why I have had over 20 e-mails this week asking sizes.
!@#$%%&*!!! READ THE DESCRIPTION before you ask the question, please.

Ok sorry I worded it wrong. What they mean is the buyer cant ask the sellers questions thus costs the seller bids. So it does have the same effect, and I will be sure to put the email in the description. I cant afford to lose any sales. I found another article that explains it better.

I have a clickable email embedded right in my item description, and people are STILL using eBay's indirect system! I don't get it. Are they afraid if they contact me directly, Big Brother will get them?

Well, this new ebay email system is good in a way. Whenever someone askes a question, I don't have to send a reply about what auction they are talking about.

I also have my email in my auction ad too.

There is a combination of things that have caused the stock to fall.

The first is stagnate growth in listings.

The second is the email problem- which should hurt sales. What does a buyer think when his/her question goes unanswered due to anti-spam filters. If a seller doen't answer an email question, do I then think she/he would be someone to deal with ?

The AW changes will have an effect on listings, but it is unclear how great it will be.

Meg's growth estimates will be a monkey on eBay's back for the next 4 years. Once eBay misses her growth target, we may see the stock well under $20.

YaHoo has taken a huge hit, and under estimated the fall in listings after beginning a fee structure.

Me thinks it is a great mistake to raise prices on the cusp of a recession.

Most companies reported less earnings last year than estimated and stock prices on quite a few things have went down.
I agree with the reasons given for Ebay's stock demise.
If you have the funds to do it right now its a buyers market on stocks. As long as you can afford to hold out till they go on the rise again and given they don't plummet.
Even if Ebay stock goes below 20 I am not so sure it would be a good buy tho given all the changes this yr and the bad publicity.
Ebay stock may rise again but I am thinking it will take a while.
Everything affects Ebay including the POstal increase, Paypal, AW, etc.
You'd think Eaby would form an alliance with these folks and work out some kind of plan.
A Package deal or something who knows jsut my 2 cents anyways.

You know its amazing how companies follow the leader in raising fees.

Yahoo then eBay
Honesty then AW
Post office then Ups

I agree with angelstruck in that if eBay plans to survive they better start helping members. A good reliable free online payment service would be a start, then a hosting service. I think what will really hurt eBay is the post office. With another hike in 2002 I know my customers wont pay, heck they gripe now bigtime.
