Somewhere around 98% of what I sell is shipped Priority Mail insured. I've always been tempted to use an online postage source to make things more efficient on my end and avoid the long lines at the P.O. The one thing that always held me back was that I'd still have to stand in line to buy insurance.

Today's AW newsletter had a blurb and a special offer for Stamps.com. After reading a bit more in depth it appears they are offering insurance! Am I reading this right? Has anyone tried it ... and can they tell me how it works? What kind of receipt do you have for your records in case of a claim? I always get either an printed postmarked green slip or a blue slip from the P.O. depending upon the insured value. How is the parcel marked using this service? Is it a separate label?

Here is the url for the stamps.com special services page:

In light of all the eBay fee increases, USPS postage rate increases, and auction support services fees, this will be some much welcomed news to me if I'm reading correctly.

You've been able to do this for a while now, you can also get Delivery Confirmation. You just click on "options" and click on "additional postage". You just type in the amount of postage you want (like an extra $1.10 for insurance) and you just print the label for the $1.10. You still have to bring the green slip (or blue slip) to the PO and they will still stamp it.

Thanks Executive Girl!

I knew you could get DC, but I didn't know about the insurance before. I rarely use DC unless it's a PayPal transaction.

Does that mean you still have to stand in line ... no dropping parcels off?

It depends.... If you have a nice postman who picks up your parcels when he makes his (or her) delivery they will often take the parcels and return the stamped insurance forms the next day.
