I'm running an older AOL version (4.something, I think) but you have to find Preferences (should be in the toolbar) from there find WWW then find "temporary Internet files" DELETE them & offline content. Then "Clear History" (which should be in the same area)....

Best way for AOL users is to minimise AOL then open your windows folder. Scroll down History folder and clear out every thing including Today file then scroll to Local Settings folder and delete everything except index file. Then scroll down to Temporary internet files folder and again delete everything but the index file.

You can also open your cookie folder and delete everything but index file if it has one.
It's important to check for both a Local settings folder and Temporay internet files folder as AOL stores duplicate files in these folders. At least it does on my system anyway.

I used to use the method above, but as part of a response to a question relative to 5.0, I got this last week from AOL

TO PURGE THE BROWSER CACHE, PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:

1. Click on START, select PROGRAMS, then click on AMERICA ONLINE.
2. Click on the AOL SYSTEM INFORMATION icon.
3. Select the UTILITIES tab.
4. Click on CLEAR BROWSER CACHE.

ALso if all else fails you can go into your AOL Directory and find the subdirectory Cache
delete the whole thing directory and all next time you log on AOL a new directory will be created to store these things.

there was a day when AOL charge $3 an hour when it was recommended you didnt empty or delete the cache because reloading these files took time and time was $$$ but with unlimited AOL and internet access and the advent of far faster modems just deleteing the cache directory is no problem.
