Okay here's the problem. On my searches, which I've changed because of eBays new category structure and because I thought that was causing this problem, but it's still there! Here are the details and if anyone knows why or how to fix I'd appreciate any help!

When loading a search ebay has those "dam*" ads at the top of the page that load from ads.web.aol.com (these are the only ones that I'm having problems with). They won't load and if I hit the stop button before the banner shows a broken link I have to shut Netscape down and restart because I can't click on anything, it won't go anywhere, not even my bookmarks will work to places like AW. I've also noticed in the Close Program Dialog box there is still a Netscape so I have to close it as well or it still won't work properly when I restart Netscape. I'm using version 4.77 and Windows ME.

Any ideas or fixes? Thanx!

Angela

Try www.adsubtract.com that may work.

There's nothing you can do. What you're describing is one of Netscape's bugs. Adsubtract may work, as it seems that the banner ad is what is triggering this occurance for you.. but as a general rule of thumb.. there's nothing you can do to fix the bug.. only Netscape can....... and they haven't since it appeared in the 4.0 version so I doubt they will.

No problems here with version 4.75

My 4.75 pukes evertime AW's banners kick in. Sends back an alert to Netscape and of course that "illegal operation" alert comes on.

Really? I've never had that happen?

reddeer I notice about a 79% browser load on ebay and then a lag. The ebay logo's on the top left side seem to be the holdup. Dial Up connections really stink! I want satelite NOW!

I use a dial up ISP because they offer so much holding space, and we have 3 accounts, but I also have AOL, via the "bring your own carrier." I "thought" I had read on AOL that they now offer satellite.

Personally, I am not presently interested, although satellite would be my preference if I were to change, as we don't have access to cable, not even cable TV, we use DirectTV. (You are right we are in the middle of no where)

I read that Direct TV (which is really the Hughes Corp, which is really General Motors),
had begun to offer satellite broadband service through the Direct TV dish. Have you heard anything about it from Direct TV?

I run AdSubtract and have been forced to use Netscape by my DSL provider, and I haven't had any problems.

There is however a problem with eBay pages hanging if you run AdSubtract and have Java disabled. It seems eBay tries to send a Java script to disable AdSubtract, (the ad doesn't appear, but it allows eBay to "log" a viewed ad, which means more advertising $$$.)

Anyway, I am not sure what it does exactly, but it can cause a conflict making the pages hang. You get an illegal operations message and you have to shut down and re-start the browser. I have also found that if I have Java disabled on eBay in general, (with or without using AdSubtract), I get more conflicts and illegal operations messages overall. I think it has something to do with some sort of screwy code eBay has devised. I don't even want to think about what eBay might be trying to do....

And too....you also have to make sure that you set up AdSubtract to run as your proxy server with Netscape.
