I just purchased a beautiful figural German pitcher and it has writing in German on it--could someone decipher it for me? It reads:
REINER WEIN UND GUTES BIER SIND DES MIRTES FEHONFTE ZIER. I recognize the words beer and wine--but do not understand the rest. Thanks alot for your help.

According to:

http://ets.freetranslation.com:5081/

PURE WINE AND GOODS BEER ARE THE MIRTES FEHONFTE ORNAMENT

Hope that helps!

Is it in an elaborate script? Could FEHONFTE be SCHONSTE? That would make it "...prettiest ornament"

Are you sure it's MIRTES and not WIRTES?
Wirt is a restaurant owner.
FEHONFTE might be the name of the restaurant.

heikejohn everywhere else!
