Hello. I was hoping that someone with some computer experience can help me with a problem. When I log on to Ebay and to Auctionwatch, when I go to upload pictures or run my ads, it seems to time out and then my modem signal signs off. I have AOL and signing on is not bad, but staying on to do some work. I have a 56k modem and not a whole lot of memory. Should I add more memory? Also I want to go to cable line but not available yet in my area. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The problem may be with AOL, not with your modem. You may want to check if they log you off after a certain amount of inactivity. But I'm not inactive you may be saying...some ISPs have view long uploads and downloads as inactivity.
Perhaps set your email program to check every 10 minutes or so. I have friends that are on dial up who do this during long downloads so that they don't get disconnected. For dial up accounts with my current ISP you are logged out after 20 minutes of supposed inactivity.
Another idea would be to download Dialer 2000. It is a program to dial the Internet, but has a "keep alive" and "web keep alive" feature to keep your connection connected until you want to disconnect. It can be found at http://www.techlogic.qc.ca/dialer2000/dialer2000.asp
Edited to add that I don't work for them but have used the product.

How large are the pictures you are attempting to upload? Most Time-Outs are from large file sizes, not the modem or connection speed.
