I have a buyer who bought a book that was a book club edition. She was infuriated upon receipt and said I committed an "injustice" to her. So I tell her that she can send the book back and I'll refund her money. That wasn't good enough for her, however. She wanted to keep the book AND I pay her the money back. She said that I had no right to take money from book club editions because I get them free with my membership. She threatened to do a chargeback with paypal. But, I just now found the envelope she sent me a money order in so she never even paid with paypal. It was a Wal-mart m.o. if I remember correctly. So the worst she can do to me is give me a neg. right?? Since I have the e-mail where she says she got the book, she can't claim she didn't receive it and claim mail fraud right?? How should I deal with this?

Hi Redskinfan... I would tell her if she wants a refund she MUST return the item to you (and in the same condition that she received it in). If she wants to refund something at Walmart does she just go in and demand a refund and say the item is home and it's of no use to her so she wants her money back AND get to keep the item? Rediculous!

If she paid by MO, as far as I know, there is nothing she can do but NEG you.

Sounds like this buyer is a little off her rocker. Wants to keep the item and get a refund at the same time. Threatening you with a Paypal chargeback when she paid with a MO. Please!

I would also print out a copy of the auction so you have a hard copy of it, and print out her emails so you have hard copies of (1) the auction description and (2) her admitting she received the item should any problems come up.

I recently committed the same "injustice" although it was completely unintentional, a mistake of omission on my part. I refunded the buyer the money and told him to keep the book.

However, you are under no obligation to do the same. If you're willing to give the buyer a full refund upon return of the book, it sounds like you're being quite reasonable and the buyer is not. (So now sellers aren't allowed to make money off of stuff they didn't pay for? Guess if my father-in-law gives me any more books he doesn't want, I'd better pay him. )

Sounds like she doesn't have all her facts right either...
