If I sell an item week after week that is the same but a little difference in appearance
how should I word my text so that the buyer knows they are not getting the
one pictured but is similar in appearance.

In other words it's like marbles, both are round with swirls of color but no two are
alike.

I can come up with my own wording, but would like to see how others do it.

I want to use the same picture for all auctions.

I would consider bolding & capitalizing it in the text, perhaps making it the lead sentence.

Example, if the picture is of a blue bowl but you have a green one, then be sure green is in the title somewhere and your lead sentence could be something like:

GREEN Salad bowl identical to one pictures except it's GREEN not blue as shown.

Don't get the big deal about using a picture of a similar item so long as you make it clear in the text that the item is identical except for color, size, etc.

As I stated in an earlier thread. I think it is wrong to use a picture that is NOT the item you are selling.

I cannot think of any case where you would WANT to have a different picture. You are just asking for a problem transaction. (Bidders Remorse/Fraud Claim).

As someone who has never sold on eBay, could someone explain why you would want to use a picture of something you are NOT selling?

In the example given by rampaged, I don't think I would want to bid on something I can't see. How do I know what color blue (or green or red) the marble actually is?

gisi,

How do you know if you are going to get THAT color blue anyway? Colors can differ dramatically based on your settings which is why I tell my customers that AND try to describe the color.

As a seller I have a picture of a particular hat. Now the picture of this hat shows it with a blue bill on it. I can't get the blue bill ones anymore, so I use the same picture and state in my text, THIS HAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON IS IDENTICAL BUT HAS A HUNTER GREEN BILL ON IT.

BTW, I've used something similar to this for several years on a couple of my items & not one case of buyer's remorse or fraud.

FRAUD? How can they charge fraud when I've stated IN THE AUCTION exactly what they are bidding on.

If a seller is out there buying just based on looking at the pictures and not reading the accompanying text...well, more fool them.

Also wanted to add that right after I typed this, I happened to pick up a catalog from a major company to see an item I wanted to order. The item pictured was a nice shade of blue. When I glanced over to read the description of the item, at the bottom it read available in black only

I've seen similar advertisements in everything from newspapers to magazines to some of the largest catalog companies in the world.
