HI, thanks so much to these boards and a recent thread I became aware of it. I received the snow white virus. I did not open it. I deleted it at once. It is in my recently deleted mail file which will stay for about 48 hours. Could someone please tell me what to do next. Is there anyway I can tell who sent this to me? My ISP is compuserve, I recently sent them a couple of pieces of spam mail like What I got banned from selling on ebay type of stuff, but have never heard from them. My neighbor told me she would not be the least bit surprised if it is one of my non paying bidder people that I just filed a credit for. I would hate to think you just delete and go on from there, or am I just over re-acting? Thanks so much any input would be most appreciated.

Never mind, re-read your post and now I understand it. There probably isn't much that you can do about it. These jerks just hop from one free email address and ISP to another.

Once it's deleted you're good to go.
I get the Snow white email several times a week. Norton's catches it before it even lands in my inbox.

Weird, I have never gotten a Snow White letter, but I too run Norton.

We tried the big McAfee programs, and they consistantly screwed up all of our computers.

Norton does a great job for us and we run 4 computers and have never had a virus, BUT we don't open attachments unless we know the person very well, AND we know that they keep their own anti-virus programs up to date.

Hi Dubyasdamon. No, What I was implying is that recently I sent my ISP a couple of pieces of spam email like they suggest to do. This supposedly helps you and other memebers from getting unwanted solicitations. I have never heard back from my ISP about this mail. So I do not know if sending it to them is the right thing to do.I would like to forward it on to someplace that can do something about it and maybe stop the source and prevent it from going on to others, who are not aware.

Thanks reddeer, that is a relief, I have a whole day of listing ahead of me.
JWPC. I also use Norton.
dubyasdamon, you are right, this is my first virus (that I know of) and I am sure I just got carried away.
My day already is starting out so much better.
Thanks,
Latte

Depends. You COULD copy it to a AOL floppy and drop it in your neighbors mailbox

What's the Snow White virus?
I have a piece of email waiting for me with no name and no subject (both blank, I never saw a blank "from" before), anyone seen one of these? I'm not even going to look at it -- maybe from the local library computer, LOL.

capotasto,

I received an email yesterday with no name and no subject, just an attachment. Norton snatched it up and tossed it in the quarantine bin right quick!

I too have been receiving email with no name & no subject lately. Also a lot or re: in the subject portion. I've had Snowhite arrive twice today as well.

I have Norton's set up so it scans my email before it even hits my inbox. I also have about a dozen spam filters set up so the rest of the junk goes straight to the trash.

There was a thread recently about the Snow White virus and bhearsch gave some info on how to block it in your e-mail. I tried it and it works great. Remember to spell Snowhite this way.

I actually received a worm in one of my buyer's response to my EOA. It was really weird the email from them came through as a Re: EOA however above that one came a blank subject with an attachment and me like a dip trusted Macaffee and opened it "READER-DIGEST-LETTER.txt.pif". Thank god this bidder was annoying enough that I forwarded their email to my sister who got WHAMMO'D. Thank goodness she has inoculateIT and straightened me out. So in the mean time I have put them on my "blocked sender's" list and emailed them my reason and phone number. I'm not even sure they knew it was being sent each and every time.

Joice,
Thanks... The email I have sitting there at Yahoo (blank from, blank subject) is 15K but no attachment is indicated.
I still don't think I'll look at it.

Here's a link to the Norton's tutorials which includes the info you need.

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/tutorial/nav2001/index.html

All you really need to do is change your email settings slightly. pop3.norton.antivirus becomes the incoming mail server.

Joice - right after I posted here that I had NEVER received such, I received exactly what you comment on - an e-mail with no sender, and no subject - of course in the Outlook Express Window I could see the "Snow White," but Thanks Norton, it is gone!

Furkidom: thanks so much for the Norton tutorial, went right to it, soon as I saw your post. Was having a hard time. It seems I no longer hsve Norton, but now Have McAfee V shield. Going to require some looking into, I do not understand this. I was not able to re-subscribe over the net. Thanks

I would highly recommend Inoculate IT, which is a free virus scanner. It is easy to download and use, and easy to update.

Both times we have had a virus or trojan horse, McAfee missed it, even though it was up to date.
