How do you handle retalitory negs when bidders don't live up to their end of the bargain?

The best way to deal with a retaliatory neg is to leave a factual, unemotional response and move on.

Amen to what RainyBear said. Coincidentally, we got our first retalitory feedback today. Actually, it was a neutral. But it was our first non-positive comment ever with almost 200 feedback. Anyway, I left a factual response. And a potential bidder won't be turned off by it because if they are interested, they can see the same things in this person's history that I wrote in the follow-up feedback. Just don't get down to their level in commenting because potential good bidders will be turned off by that. Good luck. They always say that the first one hurts the worst.

My first neg was from a buyer who said I was too slow in shipping. because her check showed a cancel date that was wrong, because I didn't even put her check in the bank yet, so how could it have canceled sooner, so without even contacting me she went and left me a neg, well I was so mad that I emailed her and asked her why, to make a long story short she jumped the gun so I was stuck with a neg. all because she didn't contact me first. The bottom line is that my response to her was not professional, and now I was sorry after I left it but I was so mad.
Never leave a neg feedback when you are really upset, wait till you think things over first. Always be polite and directly to the point of the situation, nothing more.

Hello All!

I've been reading the responses to this issue and I wanted to offer another solution:

I have 3 negatives on my profile now. All undeserved.

2 are from people who posted negative feedback because I filed a Final Value Credit form which automatically sends the bidder a warning. I feel those negatives were in retaliation.

1 was due to a bidder not reading my 'ABout Me' page which explains my policy about refunds and exchanges.

I have contested EVERY ONE of them through Squaretrade.com. I filed a case for each and so far 2 bidders have responded. YOU CAN GET YOUR FEEDBACK REMOVED!!!!!!!!! All it entails is bringing in a SquareTrade mediator to review the case. Once an agreement is reached, the mediator will contact eBay to have the feedback removed.

So far, 2 out of the 3 negatives will be removed from my profile within 2 weeks!!!!!!!!

SELLERS: IF YOU FEEL THAT YOUR NEGS ARE UNDESERVED, GO TO SQUARETRADE.COM EBAY HAS UPDATED THIER FEEDBACK REMOVAL POLICY!!!

If your retaliatory neg is in response to your neg for a deadbeat, therein lies your problem. IMO it's unwise to neg a deadbeat. Negs do nothing long-term to impact a deadbeat. I can't say the same for the seller.

Much better IMO to file NPB, FVF, and move on to the next sale.

Hi Jennalaw!

Thanks for your post!

I wanted to add that as SquareTrade is a system that depends on both parties wanting to work things out, the other person MUST respond to your case and agree to have the negative feedback removed.

If the other party doesn’t respond, we will refund the $15 mediation fee.

The trained, professional mediator helps you reach an agreement, ensures all underlying issues are resolved, reviews the agreement, approves it and sends it to eBay.

Then eBay, per their policy, will remove your feedback.

At maximum, this process takes 10-14 days. Please email [email protected] if your feedback is not removed in this time.

SquareTrade approved sellers (they display the SquareTrade Seal on their auction listings) have guaranteed to responding to cases filed against them, have had their identities verified, and committed to SquareTrade’s selling standards.

For complete info on negative feedback removal: http://www.squaretrade.com/eb/ebay_nf_020801.html

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, please email me!

The time to leave feedback is when the entire transaction is over. Read ebay's TOS. Just becouse someone paid you is not a reason to leave feedback right away.

This gets rid of a lot of retaliatory negs. I know that a lot of people will not agree with me on this, but everyone must find what works best for them.

Too many people like to slam someone when they know that the victim can not hit back.

SquareTrade Seal Standard Fees

Revenues Annual Fee
Up to $50,000 $100
$50,001 - $250,000 $200
$250,001 - $1M $400
$1M - $10M $800
$10M - $100M $1600
$100M - $1B $3200
Above $1B $6400

Oh yeah, just what we need. Another "service" siphoning off their cut from the eBay cash cow.

My experience with logo services has been that they tend to side with whoever pays for the logo (trustE is one service that has yet to boot a paying member).

You know, my only problem with mediation is that it doesn't work if the other party is not sincere in executing the terms of the mediated agreement. I've been in situations where we came to a lovely mediated agreement, but the other party was just making the motions, and had no intention of following through. As you can tell, I feel quite cynical about the potential of a mediated agreement.

It is unfortunate that many sellers are not leaving neg FB on deadbeat buyers. It is also too bad eBay doesn't show the current number of NPB alerts and NPB credit requests on the Feedback page such as it shows bid cancellations.

I don't have that many deadbeats but the ones I have had have strung me on for some time. They have also had all positive FB with no negs which you know is BS as they had bid on lots more items than they have FB.

Fortunately most sellers are cheaper than scared and will risk the retaliatory neg and request a final value credit from eBay. This would make these credit requests and alerts good information to have on a user's public record.

Hi abacaxi!

Nice to see you on this board. I always appreciate your feedback as it helps to lead us to areas where we need to clear confusion, which helps to make our service better.

As SquareTrade’s service is about building trust online, people who become members of the SquareTrade Seal program have their identities verified, commit to good selling practices, and to respond to dispute resolution cases filed against them. Buyers from SquareTrade Seal Members are also backed by our $250 Fraud Protection Guarantee.

To remain a member of the SquareTrade Seal program, sellers over time must continue to uphold the aforementioned guidelines—if not, they are revoked by our compliance department. Therefore the Seal itself is not merely a logo, it is a symbol of integrity online.

Other benefits of the Seal Program include instant neg. feedback notification, 5 free mediated cases—required to remove feedback (a $60 value), and promotion of our sellers with a search function on our website that allows bidders to search for items being sold by SquareTrade Seal Members.

Additionally, as mediators are a neutral third party, people who are not Seal Members entering into dispute resolution are treated with the same respect as those who are Seal Members.

We are continuing to improve our service, all of your feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!
-Mae

Retalitory Negs are best avoided by simply
not leaving a negative feedback for a deadbeat or a difficult buyer or seller.
