I found this cup & saucer at a thrift store. It is not old, dated 1996, but on the bottom it says: "Prototype Only. This is and remains at all times the property of the Royal Doulton Company. NOT FOR SALE." Anybody know what this is and can I sell it?

Sorry, I can't help, but will send this back to the top. Maybe there are some china people on now.

Maybe it was used as a salesman's sample for the rep to show the different stores the new product. Perhaps some Royal Doulton collectors may like to have it. I don't know if the Royal Doulton police will get you if you try to sell it.

I'm going to try to post the pic. Not sure if this will work.

Next time try this, deleting the $ inside the brackets:

Thanks, Michelle, for posting the pic. I'm an idiot. Shaani, the Royal Doulton police is exactly what I'm worried about. I probably better forget selling this on Ebay.

I am not certain but I think that the company meant it as a prototype or sample of their new pattern. So the store wouldn't sell the sample piece. But what happens to it afterwards is maybe kind of a grey area?

My brother-in-law sent me a neat Hallmark ornament a couple of years ago. He talked the sales lady out of it as they were all sold out and he wanted me to have one. It is marked as a sample and not for resale. I like it because of that.

I'd try it. What do you have to lose? If they cancel your auction .... no big deal. From all the threads here...it's just playing the odds. They won't suspend you for it, so might as well take a shot...

I would try it also. It is pretty and someone will want it.

And Michelle is still here? I thought she was taking it easy and AW is still making her work?

Yeah shaani - I'm still here (ETA - 2 days and counting!) The AW slavedrivers have generously granted my request for a couple of weeks leave after the fact but in the meantime I've cut back to 3 days/week.

Oh - and welcome to AW annaleedee

Hi Michelle,

I think AW keeps you here because they know when you are around we won't get into trouble as we don't want to stress you.

Best wishes!
