If you're use to listing items with 60 to 70+ characters in the title using eBay's 45 character limit is a pain.
What is the technical obstacle that prevents eBay from expanding the limit?
The titles are so limited their auctions look like mystery listings.

Every time eBay introduces a new feature I find myself wishing that instead of window-dressing foolishness like thumbnail pics they would give us the option to have more than 45 characters in the title. I would be glad to pay an extra quarter or whatever for another ten or fifteen characters. Certainly it would help me sell far more effectively than any other option currently available, including the double-category option.

It would be nice, then newbys wouldn't have to try & figure out what the "codes" mean.
I'm not new & even I have trouble sometimes understanding what is being sold.

LOL. eBay cannot even handle Daylight Savings Time. They certainly could not program expanded title listings!

My only guess would be that somewhere in the depths of the ebay application, there is a vital feature that will break if they remove the 45-character limit, and to change it would require a vast programming effort.

Or it could be that the minions of Meg are just silly, arbitrary fools! :-0

(The real answer probably lies somewhere in between.)

I'd love to get the full 45 characters, I seem to be required to save 3 characters for an important bit of info in my auctions, (space)NR.

I know that eBay will NEVER have an icon identifying auctions with reserves or auctions that don't have reserves. I'd stop including the NR in my titles except I start at VERY low opening bids and the NR makes a big difference.

I have used ebay for what seems like forever and I was still trying to figure out acronyms like NWT, OOP, PSA, GIA, etc.

What makes it worse is they use the acronyms again in the description.

I'd be happy if they expanded it to one more letter. Ever notice how many times the last word gets cut off by one letter? lbnol (*laughing but not out loud).

Perhaps 1 day we will have more than 45 chars and be able to look back at least 31 days to compile worthwhile monthly reports?
