I know there is nothing I can do about it but the Post Office I'm going to is charging me $7.55 on packages weighing 4lbs 7 oz. When I ship something 1 lb or two its the right rate but three pounds and above they are overcharging.I hate charging a customer an extra buck because my Post Office is sticking it to me!

Sorry to tell you but the going rate is $7.55 for a 4 lb 7 oz package. They aren't ripping you off, that's the rate schedule. Wait til it goes 5 lbs. Then they rate by zone.

Go to www.usps.gov/ - calculator - and see for yourself. You have to put your ZIP and the bidder's ZIP in there. I put my ZIP as both sender and receiver and came up with $7.55.

These rates have been in effect a while now.

I've never known the post office to have a flat rate above 2 pounds - You've always had to pay by the pound.

While $7.55 seems high, it is not out of line with what other services charge.

That's the way it is

cardmall is right. Up to 1 lb is $3.50, up to 2 lbs is $3.90, anything over that is by the pound and not flat rate at all. For 4 lbs, 7 ozs the rate is $7.55, as I stated.

How can you sell and not know the new increases?

Up to 5 pounds, the post office's Priority Mail rate is the same regardless of where in the U.S. the package is going.

After 5 pounds, as mentioned above (Hi Mtnmama!), the Priority Mail rate is based on the weight and the destination.

I assume you're using Priority Mail, right? Your post didn't say specifically. If you're using Media Mail, yep, $7.55 is too much.

Here's the info, copied-and-pasted from the USPS web site:

--------------------------

Priority Mail Rates

Weight Rate
Up to 1 pound $3.50
Up to 2 pounds 3.95
Up to 3 pounds 5.15
Up to 4 pounds 6.35
Up to 5 pounds 7.55

For packages over 5 pounds, rates are based on the weight of the piece and the zone (distance from origin to destination ZIP Code).

--------------------------

(edited to add rates)

Yes Pat you're right it's $3.95. How could I forget?

Straight from the USPS website. (told ya I was stirred up by Damon)

2 lb to 3 lb package $5.15

3 lb to 4 lb package $6.35

4 lb to 5 lb package $7.55

5 lb to whatever depends on ZIP code (zone) For example a 5 lb 1 oz package delivered from GA to California would be $10.35.
The same package if mailed from my town to my town would be $7.90!

It amazes me that folks don't utilize the rate calculator at the website to even check up on their post office before they start thinking they're going to have to raise their rates.

stirred up real good now! LOL!

It also amazes me that I read dewey's post and forgot she listed the rates.

I think someone needs to go to sleep now.

Good night all.
