I've purchased about 50 items lately and have had no problems. I was high bidder on an auction on June 06 and the seller contacted me right away asking for my address. I sent it immediately and asked her for her address and about the shipping cost. I didn't receive a response so I e-mailed again a couple of days later and then sent an e-mail through ebay.
She still didn't answer and since she had listed some auctions I figured she must be getting my messages so I pulled her contact info. So now she sent me this:
Hi,
I'm really sorry, I've been away from my computer for a few days.
My hubby has been gone on his week-long fishing trip so I haven't been able
to get packages to the post office for quotes or sending cuz I'm riding to
work (and I go to the P.O. on my lunch hours) with a friend on his
motorbike.
I'll be in touch first thing next week. Sorry for any inconvenience!
Thanks,
XXXXXX
She is a fairly new seller. The purchase can probably be sent in a padded envelope. Any suggestions how I should respond? I guess I am in no great hurry for the item but I am a bit peeved that it should take almost two weeks for her to give me a shipping rate.

I'll bet she's married to the same moron who e-mailed me that he hadn't sent his payment because he was "out enjoying the spring." I helped send him to the island of NARU where he can Tra-la-la all he wants. Dumb a$$.
In your case, I'd be inclined to write her and express some disappointment at the delayed shipping. Tell her this has not turned out to be the positive eBay experience you are accustomed to. I doubt it would do any good, but at least you didn't seethe in silence.

Thank you, Nefish.
If you know any good literary agents, I am surprisingly available for representation.

Most sellers on ebay are not a business and should not be held to the same standards of customer service. In the old days of mail order, it was customary to send a package in 4-6 weeks. Nowadays in this whiney world, people can hardly wait a week. Yes I got a neg from a dip that had to wait a whole two days before I mailed the item!!
Shaani, I find it quite odd that you find it necessary to come to an open site and attempt to play victim over a very minor issue. Are you looking for a support group? The "I had to wait a week for a shipping quote club." Why not start one today?

misscandle-that was too funny! LOL!
I don't think it's wrong of people to expect their purchases to be shipped in a timely fashion. If you can't do that, you shouldn't sell. I read an auction the other day. Payment must be made in three days-this is a business. Then under shipping-This is a hobby-I ship only on Fridays. Ok-whatever.

Susan: that's a hoot! A Sybil seller. Can have a committee meeting all by herself.
"This is a business! This is a hobby! You're both right."

susan1232, I agree that most buyers should expect their purchases to be shipped in a timely fashion.
quickdraw29, sorry but you must read something entirely different than what I posted here. In no way do I consider myself a "victim" and believe me when I say that I would most likely be the last in line for any support group. You have me figured all wrong.
First off, I am not dealing in the old days of mail order. I am living in the year 2001. I thought perhaps someone (like misscandle) would suggest a nice way for me to answer that may help a new seller know that buyers have certain expectations.
If some sellers just want to be "hobby" sellers and get around to quoting rates two weeks later and shipping "whenever" perhaps they should have a little "hobby seller" icon next to their ID.

Sybil is right, Misscandle. This is the same person that stifed me on two auctions last month. She was ill-she had personal problems-and all the while managed to list over 160 auctions. What a woman! lol

Shaani: Now that I'm trying to think of something serious to write, I'm drawing a blank.
I would point out that no doubt her husband's trip was planned and thus she should have considered what she was going to do about shipping her products.
Also, if she has a reliable scale at home, she can weigh the package and look up the shipping charges at www.usps.com.
The Aunt Agatha in me would come out and I'd give her a stern, but kind, lecture about how things are generally done in polite eBay society.
(This is off-topic, but is her husband broad-minded, or just clueless? I'm trying to picture my hubby's face if I told him I'm catching a ride on the back of some guy's motor bike. Of course, at my age, he'd bust a gut laughing.)

So basically no one can have options? Personnally I am happy with living in a free country, and if a seller chooses to ship one month late, I will allow that seller to continue to do so although I may not buy from them again. That's how the free market works, it doesn't require miss savior to tell the seller her expectations. Don't assume you are more intelligent and more superior just because you're waving a few dollars.

misscandle - ROFLMAO! Thank you - I needed this!!!!!
shanni - tell her to either invest in a backpack or just strap them around her waist for the ride to work. I am sure where she works they get mail, and she could arrange to mail these packages somehow. I mean, it can't be too formal of a place if she can straddle a motorbike in her work clothes!

quickdraw29, I am also happy that I live in a free country.
I am used to customer service and I see it both ways. When someone comes into my shop waving money I drop everything so I can wait on them right away. When I wave my money I expect a certain level of service.
"miss savior?" "more intelligent and more superior?" LOL at the assumptions!
Thanks everyone. I will wait until next week and see how it goes.

It has been two weeks today since I was high bidder on this auction and still no shipping quote or address from her.
The fishing trip must be taking longer than planned. Or she took off with the guy on the bike.....or something.
Maybe it will be my first deadbeat seller.
