Most, but not all, Breyers are marked with a raised circular mark inside one of the back legs. Should say Breyer Molding Co. or something similar (they change marks depending on how old the piece is - Breyer has been in business since the 1950s.
I have the Breyer book right here in front of me and I'll be happy to ID your pieces if you can post a picture...

Hi Tracy, look underneath between the back legs, sometimes they are stamped there. Early breyers are not always stamped however. I collected breyers as a child and if you posted pictures I would be happy to look.

Great!!!! and thanks. I will post the pictures first thing in the morning. The kittens (4 strays are finally sleeping and I don't want to wake them with the lights and stuff). One horse does look like it has a circluar mark or something on one of the legs it is kind of hard to tell in the dim light.
Someone told me they me be breyers but I am doubt full as they came with 2 horses that make horse soungs and have cc marked on them.
Thanks again! I will post first thing in the morning. I just got the kittens to sleep and don't want to wake them. Hmm and I thought I would never be a mother <LOL> They are only a few weeks old.
Anyone want a kitten?

Hi!
Here is any easy way to find the models & see if they are Breyers by matching them to the photo (or email me with pix & I can ID them for you)-I have been into Breyers for over 20 years:

(Sorry, don't know how to do a hotlink)
My email is:

Good Luck!

traceyg,
Your "CC" is actually "GC" which stands for Grand Champion, another maker of horse models, albeit..considerably less expensive and less quality than Breyers.
Unless the other 2 are very old Breyers (circa 1950's), they will have the circular Breyer mark under one of the hind legs.
I wish my daughter had stuck w/collecting the minatures instead of the full size, living breathing types.

Now I'm going to ask a stupid question.
Are collectible Breyer horses porcelain or plastic? I can't tell from the photographs, and all the pages talk about molds, etc., with no definition of the material used to make the models. All the Breyer horses I've seen in stores are plastic.
Does Breyer have two separate lines -- one for collecting, and one for playing with?

eleanordew,
Yes, they have both. They have a very limited edition line which is done in porcelain.
The bulk (which does include some limited edition ones) are done in plastic.
When they talk about molds, they usually mean the mold for the particular model of horse. They may use the same "mold" or design for several different breeds.
PLAY with your Breyer?! GASP! What KIND of sadist are you??? IF you want something to play with, go buy a Grand Champion.
Some people put them on shelves in their original package & never touch them. Others are like The Velveteen Rabbit..well worn w/love.
Of course, the less damage, the higher the resale price (except for those models which are made year after year & have virtually no resale value).
Of course, my daughter has 2 of each, one which sits on the shelf & one that gets played with..she resolved THAT problem years ago.

Well said, eventer. I was just about to respond when your message came in. It helps if you are a "horse person" if you get into the Breyers. My sister and I can be walking down an aisle at a swap meet and she'll see horses on a table ahead and will point them out to me. When you get to recognize them, you'll be able to tell if it's a Breyer at a thousand yards!
As eventer said, what makes Breyers collectible is their condition and their scarcity. As an example, I was lucky enough to find two extremely rare Breyers from the 1960s. One sold for an outrageous amount of money (paid for my new computer), the other sold for under $40. The only thing different was their condition. The collectors are VERY picky.

Well these horses are about the size of the stray kittens I inherited a couple weeks ago. They are very young kittens and the horse are about the same size. I picked up one of the horses thinking it was one of the kittens getting into the bookcase. I moved the horse and did it again later in the day. Boy do I feel like an idiot. 4 active kittens with no mama is well God Bless those mother cats.
Anyway I have the pictures but it has been so long since I put pictures up here I forget how to do the link. As soon as someone lets me know I will load them up.

Thanks for the tip they were the reason I picked up the bag. Got the whole bag for .25 five cents a horse isn't bad. Anyway I just got a real kick out of the way the make the horse sounds. I figured if I didn't by them they were going to think the 30 something old women was nuts playing with toys at good will. I had fun with them though : ). Anyway thanks again now I will be better able to describe them.
Okay so what is the code the symbols I have to use here again for loading pictures. I know it isn't the same as the internet.
Thanks

Hi, tracyg -
Sorry to tell you this, but Breyer's don't have mane and tail hair, it's molded on. There is a separate line that Breyer tried that did have hair (I think they were called "dazzles" or something like that) but they were a flop and aren't even shown in the Breyer book.

Mary's right. Those are not Breyers. They look more like the Grand Champions.

Don't worry about it. Since I don't know what Breyer means I am not disappointed. I only picked them up because I was having so much fun playing with them at goodwill in the bag I didn't want anyone to think I totally lost my mind (although I did that years ago ; ).
I picked up all five for .25 can't beat that. I will either put them up on auction in the toys as I was going to do or maybe I will keep them in my living room garden. I did find a marking on them when the teenage that works for me comes in today I will ask him what it is as he has better eyes then I do.
Thanks again for all your help! I learned a little about horse models.

traceyg,
There are people who collect grand champions, my little pony & other brands as well. I had a couple of GC's still in the original package that were several years old.
I'd bought them for my daughter to give as gifts & forgotten about them in the bottom of the "emergency" gift box.
Didn't pay for any cruises around the world but they sold more more than I originally paid for them so I was satisfied.
