From the Announcement Board:
***Introducing the eBay Designer Boutique***
Finding your favorite designer gear on eBay just got easier! Introducing our new Designer Boutique - THE way to find designer clothes, shoes, accessories and personal care for both men and women!
Now you'll be able to shop from a vast array of designer items, listed by designer - so you can go right to what you're looking for. Our Designer Boutique homepage will feature new sellers and hot items, so bookmark the Boutique and visit frequently.
Find the designer you're looking for in eBay's Designer Boutique!
Regards,
eBay
My question is this: How is this any different than just doing a basic search for these designers?

I would hope that would put a dent in those scum sucking keyword spammers, can't find anything on ebay anymore.

It does get annoying. I was searching for some Estee Lauder products, and kept pulling up one seller who said in her auction, "check my other Estee, Clinique, Bath and Body Works", etc etc with a bunch of other "names". Only 2 or 3 of her items were Estee, but I got the entire 75 auctions in my search list.

This looks to be purely a "search" feature, to spare the bidders the effort of typing out the actual designer names.
There's no screen -- random search found "Mario Zegna" in the Ermenegildo Zegna category -- don't think they're related....
This Designer Boutique seems to be a rehash of what used to be the clothing section -- I can't remember their exact name.
I'm wondering about the "new sellers", though. I wonder if they've invited another 800 lb gorilla -- e!ville is a big enough pain as it is.

Executive Girl - I have a hard time finding any such announcement. I know it is just me...I can't ever find anything over there...I am lucky when I find the chat board. Really, I would like to read more about this...if there is any more them you put here.

ebay tries to gear these things to new users and not vets. If it can get more buyers to ebay then I'm all for it. The ratio of buyers to sellers must be pathetic.

Who will be listing in the Designer Boutique ? I wonder if it will be the "designers" themselves.
Does anyone know if ebay has entered into agreements with say, Coach to sell directly? Wouldn't surprise me with all of the VeRO about designer items. If the listings will be directly from the designers, this would sure help put an end to individuals selling designer stuff.

It also features certain sellers and links directly to their eBay stores.
If you try and put yourself in the place of a new buyer and go to this "Boutique", you get the impression these links are the only choices available to browse for clothing. Especially if you don't have a particular designer in mind to search.
I am all for ridding eBay of keyword spammers but I really think this boutique stinks. It's steering buyers away from all of our auctions unless we have eBay stores and are lucky enough to be "featured". Or maybe you pay a fee. I don't know.
Not sure when this botique opened up but I have noticed a big decline in bids the last week or so.

If you click on the search individual designer links, it takes you to all the listings, not just featured or ebay stores. I don't see anything negative yet, just one more way for someone to find me--small time seller, with occasional designer item.

That is true except, what about the clothing we sell that doesn't fall into their very limited list. No Ann Taylor, Kasper, Liz Claiborne, Michael Simon, etc. There are a lot of great items [good sellers] left off of their list..
This is just another case of Ebay's, exclusionary, bid siphoning mentality.
{edited to add}
This does nothing to stop keyword spamming and You would think that people are capable of typing the designer name into the search box for themselves.

I guess Ebay only chose the names that bring THEM the most money.....

HI! Exec Girl
Thanks for the link. I now have it book marked too. I figure if it is of any importance someone here is bound to talk about it!
As for the Designer Boutique, well, I haven't come to a conclusion yet. I do know that I found my stuff, the designer stuff that is. But I was wondering, the items of mine all had the designer in the title. I do not always do that.
If it is in the description only will it still come up???
I can see how this will #1 - hurt non designer items. #2 cause more keyword spamming.
Exec Girl- PLEASE be sure to keep me posted on anything you thing I might want to know. Thanks!

As a clothing seller, I have always wanted eBay to have a separate category for designer labels.
Believe it or not, there are some people who ONLY buy certain designer labels and this really helps them find things. Now they can browse instead of searching for each individual designer they like.
