I received this email from "[email protected]" today asking me for information regarding my last 4 CC charges and the customer info to go with it.
They also referenced the user agreement, which I cannot find one on their site. I sent an email to customer service to find out if this was for real or not, but I thought I would first give you all a heads up if you are a propay user. It smells kind of fishy to me.
Here's the email:
You have received a message!
Dear ProPay Customer,
As outlined in the User Agreement under Section I, Part 3, Paragraph B,
we
are requesting from you a copy of the Sales Draft, credit voucher or other
transaction evidence for the last 4 credit card transactions you have done.
Also, please include contact information for these customers so that we
may
contact them as outlined in Section IV, Part 2, Paragraph H.
Additionally, any outgoing ACH transfers are being held until we receive
and
review this information.
Also, could you please give us some idea for what purposes do you use your
ProPay account.
Please address all correspondence regarding this issue to the following
email address:

It sounds to me like one or two of your customers questioned the charges and now they want you to prove that you did ship the merchandise. After all, a scammer can also open a propay account and start charging cards.
This is one of the reasons I am not too crazy about Propay. Their fees are higher than a merchant account, their address validation leaves much to be desired and if there is a charge back, you don't talk directly to the issuing bank - you have to rely on Propay to fight for you. We all know how much time and incentive they have to fight for you. It's a lot easier to just allow the charge back and take it from your account. If you do a lot of credit card processing, get a real merchant account. If you don't, use C2it or at least Paydirect which is free.

Actually all my customers have received their merchandise and I have talked to them all within the past 48 hours. I really don't have that many customers charging cards. That's why I don't open a real merchant account. The cost is prohibitive to my business right now.
The reason I think this is fishy is that they are asking for my customer's information. This is not standard procedure for a chargeback through ProPay. Also, this "operations" email address is not listed as any of the contact addresses at ProPay.
Im not sending them anything until they can prove to me that this came from them. Plus, I ship everything with DC, so I have proof of Delivery through Endicia.
