Hello.

Can anyone tell me why ebay's checkout option is not worth it?

I am kind of new to ebay, and use paypal a lot, and very rarely do people pay by billpoint, so I am also thinking of cancelling my billpoint account, but can't figure out how having checkout might affect the business.

Hi-I've been on eBay four years. Just went through checkout-I bought a BIN. Although I did use Billpoint, I found checkout very cumbersome and confusing! I can see how a newbie buyer will be confounded by it, particularly if NOT paying via Billpoint, er, "eBay Payments".

Not a good experience.

Confusing seems to be the operative word. Tonight I had a friend who knows I sell on ebay call cause their hubby bought a DVD with BIN and tried to use checkout.

They were having a hard time figuring out if the transaction even went through.

We don't plan to offer check out for a good long time if ever. Things are too confusing with direct customer contact...another party in the mix on that end can't be good.

If we cancel our billpoint account, does the checkout feature go away?

If it doesn't go away, then what's the use of cancelling billpoint?

I still don't get the pros and cons of this new checkout thing.

Cancelling your Billpoint account does not make Checkout go away. Some form of Checkout will be on EVERY auction.

I had one of my repeat buyers do a BIN today on one of my auctions. She had to go through about 4 different pages before she got to the end. The emails were going back and forth with click here and go there and fill out this! Then when I tried to pull up the Checkout Summary page to fill in the shipping information it took over 8 MINUTES for that page to come up after I did the sign-in page. The last email I got says the transaction is not yet completed and we don't know what to do now! It is treating a BIN from an auction like a purchase from an Ebay Store but I don't have an Ebay Store!

At this point neither of us know what needs to be done next! Luckily she buys from me often so we know we'll complete the transaction, but I could see a new buyer getting very frustrated and just stopping.

FWIW...
bought an item with BIN last night from a seller who didn't set checkout up...
since I wasn't securely signed in, what I bought, how much it cost and my name and address went out over the "net for all to see...
never will I NOT sign in securely again...
also. since the seller hadn't specified the s+h+i, it listed as n/a...That's going to cause trouble as I foresee tons of cheapskates avoiding paying shipping because checkoput put "not applicable" in it...
I WAS able to alter my name and address and REMOVE my phone# entirely though AND because the seller didn't provide theirs, I didn't get it automatically (a good thing I think, since they wouldn't have the opportunity to alter THEIRS)...
there was a little box for a message to the seller and she DID catch it, but what if the seller doesn't? I see lots of extra emails and work...
this feature obviously still needs work...
BIG surprise, right?
