Anyone else having the problem of difficult discerning customers? I've never fieled such ridiculous complaints/reqeusts as I have this week and I've been selling online since 1998.

Since when are us auction sellers supposed to offer refunds just a buyer's whim? Are there not differences between high end retail sales and "bid em up" auctions? It seems to me that customers today are not diferentiating the two types of purchases. Hey, I'm all for customer service. It's one strength that has helped us build our business over the years. But the level of service that has recently been demanded does not at all match the prices we are currently receiving for the items we are selling.

I know my message is generalizing a bit, but I need to blow off a little steam. I had one customer email me this morning asking for a refund because his little brother dropped the item that they purchased from us and wanted to send it back to us. Another simply decided she had changed her mind a demanded a refund. Give me a break, folks, neither are reasonble requests. How about a little responsibility on the part of the buyers out there. Too much to ask?

Your thoughts?

I agree. Especially with the first one! No store would give you a refund for returning BROKEN merchandise! Some people might refund for changing your mind, but I really don't think I would. If I did, teh refund would be purchase price only.

Do you charge a restocking fee if returned in original condition and is it stated in the auction? I see 15-25% restocking fees on a lot of sites.

Do you really offer a refund if they damaged the item?

i totally agree; i had one email me the other day telling me....not asking me but telling me she is returning an auction win...it was a rug that was 100 and about 20 additional shipping dollars.....so i told her to return all she wants but that i wasn't going to refund her money and that i would refuse shipment; she then tells me that any seller that had any honor would refund the money; i told her that any bidder with any honor her bid as being a binding contract as stated on ebay.....(she had bid at the last minute ...won the bid AND then asked questions after the auction was over)finally, she NOW tells me that i sent her defective merchandise.....Well, i got the package this week and i refused it....maybe i was no neimans....maybe she thought i was kmart....

I think we have the chain stores no problems on returns. Look behind the counter at wall marts service desk lots of used items there that have been returned same with office depot ,target ,home depot ect ect ect.
I overheard a conversation between a couple of 20 year old s the pother day they had bought a printer printed out flyers for a business they were starting then returned the printer for full refund...they sounded proud of the fact.
Add to this pay pal attitude ,customer dosent like the item ,YOU WILL REFUND...

At least the customer told you they dropped the item others would have claimed it was damaged in shipment.

not much we can do just put up with it and move on.
spock here...... TILL NOV 1 ANYWAY

Not with Target anymore... as of Nov 1 you must have a receipt of some sort, or NO refund and NO exchange. They will gladly print as many "gift receipts" as you want. I asked a CS person there, and she said they will be adamant with this policy, even after Christmas.

Apparently Target, at least, has decided to put an end to the type of nonsense you talk about, and I'm personally glad for it.

Same now with Home Depot......

No returns are allowable without a receipt. It will be store credit only, no cash refunds.

I hope no one is misconstruing my post
I certainly don't condone the abuses I am just comenting on them.

That said the problem still exists in that the public is being condtioned to beleive that a refund is due for any reson
in the example I cited above with the used printer they had the recipt so they would receive refund.
I havent run in to the problem on ebay but when we had the B&M It was not uncommon to have a item returned becouse they found one cheaper somewhere else.
My response was ...the time to shop is BEFORE you buy sorry ,no refund.
spock here...... TILL NOV 1 ANYWAY
