I found these cardboard signs today and could not leave them behind. They are in pretty good shape!

Any idea when Portis Hats went out of business? Or, any idea of a close age for the signs? 1950's? 1940's? Earlier?

I believe that the Portis hat company was in business between the period of 1900-50's. I think these ads look like they are from the 40's. Here is a link to a website with a similar ad:

This ad is dated at 1942. I hope this info helps!

Thanks for the info eauctionmgt. It is similar to these. Circa 1940 sounds good to me.

These are signed by the artist "Allen". I wonder who that could be, because the artwork is quite nice, IMO. James Edward Allen is a remote possibility (I really don't know); he was a famous painter and illustrator during this time (1894-1964).

I wish they were painted by someone famous! Of couse, these are just prints of the original artwork.
