After waiting 2 months for payment (excuse after excuse), I receive payment for an auction in the form of an unsigned money order. It was made out for the correct amount, addressed to me, but not signed or addressed by the sender.

I don't get it... Her main chief excuse was that she was so upset over the 9/11 event (even though she lives in Arizona...) I don't mean to say that she wasn't upset (weren't we all??) but unless you personally had lost someone in the tragedy or lived so very close that your life still continues to be hindered to an extreme, didn't we keep paying our bills?

At any rate, will the bank accept the money order unsigned? Would there be an
"intentional" reason not to sign for it? (I mean, didn't she already have to pay for it?) Can I go ahead and sign for her? (do they verify signatures?).

Thanks for any help!

I have gotten blank money orders before and I just signed them and put them in my bank with no problem. I don't know why they would need a signature for an instrumant that has a paid cash value.

I have my husband sign them. No problem so far.

Ditto. I have received numerous blank money orders and I just wrote the person's name in the blank. My bank seems to run on autopilot so often, they probably wouldn't even notice or care if the MO was unsigned.

I deposit unsigned money orders all the time, and my bank has never made an issue of it.

I just write "authorized by purchaser", or on a personal check "authroized by drawer" which is legal. This is the same thing companies do when you give them your checking information over the phone and print out a check payable to themselves with your info and stamp it "authorized by account holder" or similar.. no problems here

Sign it with your own name. I do this all the time. As long as the money order is made out to you, you're covered. Just don't do it with an unsigned check!
