I have to admit, I got a lot of useful info just lurking on these boards before I registered.

However, as someone pointed out in another post, the moderation has been quite stifling. I never understood why grown adults who couldn't handle terse language or a strongly worded point were catered to so often by having the "offender" censored, deleted or outright suspended.

No offense to the moderators, who were no doubt just following orders (although some had much better judgement than others), but one thing I WILL NOT miss about this forum is the active and unrelenting moderation.

All because some people cannot handle adult language and sometimes firey debate, does not mean that the rest should be restrained as if still in 1st grade. Granted some behaved as if they were still in 1st grade, but the fact is we ARE all adults, and should not have been so clamped down on by those who, if I may be so bold, are likely much younger than those they are reprimanding. I cannot remember the last time I allowed my kids to dictate what I may say and how I may say it.

But alas, so long.

I have no problem with moderation for profanity, name calling, or not staying on topic which are the only recourses for people who have neither the intellect or grasp of vocabulary to discuss something as adults. Most of what is conveniently labeled "adult" is the sign of a weak mind and even weaker moral character. Who needs that to discuss eBay auction business?

Firstly, when I refer to overmoderation, I am referring to the restraining of users from more than simple profanity or name calling. I am referring to strongly worded and very pointed philosophical debate, that, to the common man may seem terse, and because of a fragile few, is often misinterpreted and summarily deleted.

Secondly, there are far too many hypersensitive and fragile users who have been allowed to "run the show" by gaining favor with moderators and being favored as a result, which all too often has meant special treatment and double standards. The dreaded "ad hominem" attacks aren't really that big a deal. Welcome to life.

The fragile types should perhaps stick to PBS and leave the real world to the rest of us. The constant frightened and offended state that some live in, leads to the rest of us having to endure far too much milquetoast.

Mature people don't want to hear or use profanity.

While today's society has gotten lax about proper manners -- it is good to have a safe haven from such ill-mannered behaviours.

Bravo AW!

Mature people recognize that AW is not a place for the self appointed social elite, it is merely an auction forum used by REAL people, who use REAL language and REAL emotion to express themselves.

It doesn't bother me in the least. If I want hoity toity conversation I'll go to my country club.

No profanity, I can understand and agree.

However, it is true that moderation has damaged otherwise good talk. Like no links, no links to competitors (even though sometimes that is not the case), etc. I understand trying to protect the bottom line, but it has been taken to extremes.

There are other sites now that do not stop such discussions, and while they do use moderators, it is just to control the profane language and just out of control members.

Here it's our yacht club. Although I am a REAL person and like being a bit outspoken, I also know that when we enter the door of the clubhouse we must adhere to the 'rules' of eqituette.

Same as here...their clubhouse, their rules.

No problem.

If you cannot limit oneself to comment on the actions of another in a critique, you are missing the whole point of community which is to help get people on track. I've seen sellers and buyers go right for the jugular over the most minor stuff. Who needs that?

mballai - I totally agree.

Too bad that this will be coming to an end soon.
