Just got an email from Half suggesting that we add YOUR HALF.COM SHIPMENT to our label. All this is supposed to make our buyers less nervous.

No way am I redesigning my label that already conforms to postal regulations. If they want me to change it, they can give me the full shipping charge they ask from the buyers. It's for shipping, not corporate greed.

Got that email too.
I can't help wondering if this is not half's reaction to a drop in orders - I know I have experienced a drop just lately here.

How much impact does this anthrax thing really have on mail order? I was completely discounting this notion, until the other night. We had dinner with some old friends and without going into details, I must admit that I nearly choked in trying to hold back the laughter when she told me how she opens her mail these days.

It just got me to thinking later, that even though I see no need to change my ways, how many others are now afraid of thier mail?

Doesn't bother me at all. Only a tiny fraction of the mail "might" be tainted. Normal care is all that's necessary.

My Half sales are pretty much normal.

I see the reasoning for the Half.com suggestion----one of the warning signs for a suspicious package is that the return address is not recognized by you and you weren't expecting anything from whatever state the package came from.

The notice that it is the Half.com order they purchased--weeks ago--with the mail speed will ease they buyers nervousness.

With a half.com shipment, you don't even know the name or address of the person you purchased from. So, it is essentially a "mysterious" package. I have a separate small label that I place on the package that says "Thank you for your purchase, then my user name and seller on eBay, half.com etc...

It's also a very thinly disguised way to get to millions of free advertisements. That's what really bothers me.

All of my packages have the numeric order number, Return Postage Guaranteed, my name/address, the type of shipping and the buyer's address with barcode. If someone finds that suspicious, they need to get some meds from their doctor.

I think the point an earlier poster raised is probably quite true.

Since buyers don't see the name/address of the seller, they don't know where their purchase is coming from. If they are easy worried about such things, a strange package arriving in the mail could be alarming.

I'll discreetly add this information , its not a major inconvience for me.

But without knowing that it is a book arriving because of a Half.com purchase--unless your ID is the same as your name---your barcoded, numeric package is a mysterious, suspicious package to anyone who has been listening to the media.

Very few buyers are going to think to have the numeric order number printed out to check

If you do print up labels with YOUR HALF.COM SHIPMENT on it, don't print up too many.

There's nothing strange or suspicious about a professionally addressed label. The Post Office has already described what constitutes suspicious in terms of mail.

The name change for Half might be the kiss of death. Half finally has some real recognition. What are they thinking?
