In the last 24 hours three of my auctions have been won with BUY IT NOW and all three buyers used "CHECKOUT" (and of course-Ebay payments/Billpoint). Since I don't participate in checkout (but DO take Billpoint), I had not listed the shipping/handling charges. Which means I have to write three separate emails begging for my shipping $$ before I can send the item. This could also mean there are three disgruntled buyers out there who believe they have paid in full for their items (However, couldn't they figure out something is amiss if there is a zero on the shipping line??). If this checkout thing is not going to go away, I'm thinking "if you can't beat 'em, you might as well join 'em." If not, it might be like trying to fight a tidal wave. Thoughts?? Yes, same here. I am still trying to figure out what verbage, signage, or the like to put in my listings to 'inform' buyers that I do not use Checkout. Of course, that presumes that people read the ad, and not merely look at the pretty pictures..... lol

Good luck I think few buyer read any of the listing till after they have the Item then some read it to see if they can find one word out of place to claim not as advertized.

I have spent the weekend with little luck trying to up date my auction adding the shipping for checkout with little luck there as well.

I personally dont think ebay is going to fix this looks like it not only a plain to make auction inpersonal but also to make listing through ebay the only way to list..

after all if this was such a well though out plan they would have shared it with the online auction manage companies like AW so they could have had the feature ready to go as well

If you have instant purchase enabled buyers will be able to use checkout. Disable instant purchase and your buyers won't be able to use checkout to complete the transaction. If you want to keep instant purchase just put the instant purchase information in the checkout information section.

HAHAH

Sound easyer then it is to do..

First when you Change the selection from ebay it dont turn off checkout at all this is just it checkout was supose to be optional but its not there is a bug in the process.

Secondly there revise feature only works off and on and even so for buyer with 100's and thousands of auction the time it would take auction would be over long before they could add the shipping to checkout.

so just turning off checkout dont work this feature according to ebay dont work and makes it obsolete..

as well I have tuned off instant purchase in my billpoint account this dont stop things either.

Yep -

I bet AW and numerous other auction interface companies are going to be walking bowlegged on this one for quite awhile.

As my dear old sainted Mother used to say; 'H*ll honey, you should get at least a dinner and a show, before you get [threaded] that bad'.

This is what I put in my auctions.

Attention:As I am not familiar with the new checkout feature I am NOTusing at this time. I accept xxxx xxxx xxx.

I know I will have to make up my mind soon but so far no problems. I will probably give in to it as I do quite a few BIN and I would like the BIN to be able to do either PayPal or Billpoint. Therefore they can have their merchandise in 3 days of the end of auction.

I will try again. If it doesn't work at least you will get the right idea

I canceled billpoint as a direct result of this. Seems to nip it in the bud. They have to wait for me. Most of mine pay with paypal so it was no great loss and by canceling BP it was a way of letting my small voice be heard.

Frustrating times!

My simple solution, I write, right in the check out box, DO NOT USE THIS E BAY FEATURE. IT STINKS AND GO SIGN THE PETETION AGAINST IT. OR WAIT FOR MY EOA PERSONAL NOTICE. DREAM UP WHAT EVER YOU LIKE FOR THAT BOX. LOCK IT IN. AND THAT IS THE END OF THAT NUISANCE FROM E BAY. IT SHOWS UP RIGHT IN THE BUYERS FACE. NO ONE HAS USED IT ONCE SINCE I DID THAT. GOOD LUCK. Sorry about the caps, I forgot but I am not going to do that all over again. Jack.

tickledpink .... How did you cancel BillPoint? I have tried several times, but continue to have customers using the service.

JACKSWEBB:

Keep checking your auction! I entered a "message" on the Instruction Box and an hour after the listing appeared, my message had been mysteriously "edited". The same thing happened to the MEG Voodoo Doll auction. eBay is being very heavy-handed and are pulling out all stops to put down the rebellion. They have lost many honorable sellers over this issue. Sad...very sad.

I cancelled Billpoint this week so I won't have to deal with the checkout mess that ebay has forced on us. I prefer to do personal EOA notices.

I read on another board about changing your payment address (under preferences) to read
Your name of course.
address = will email you personally
2nd address = shortly after the auction ends.
City = Item will ship from
State = Your State
phone = your email address.

I personally do not know if this will work but I am giving it a try.

Now, can someone tell me where the option to shut off "check out" is? I can not find it anywhere.

Thanks,

I think I will wait for a sold item that I am not particularly happy with the final price on, and if buyer tries Checkout, I'll write back "Sorry but you and Ebay are not fulfulling my terms of sale. I accept checks, MOs, and paypal. Deal is canceled and I will relist. You will have to get your money back from bidpoint or billpoint or whatever. "

To cancel your billpoint go to billpoint customer care.
Here is a link:
https://www.billpoint.com/customercare/index.html

This seemed to stop mine from coming through it takes a few days to get it done, and you will get canned messages from them trying to explain what they are doing. But they really don't listen to you.

There are some excellent thread in the ebay checkout forums if you go over there to read.

Thanks for the thread! It prompted me to finally go over and cancel my Billpoint account.

I was just letting it go because rarely does anyone use it to pay me. But, with this checkout feature more might be tempted.

The majority of my auctions are videos, and I give them a choice of shipping - $1.50 media rate, $2.50 first class, or $3.50 priority. Ebay checkout doesn't support shipping choices so I can't use it anyway. Plus I already pay for AW, so why should I list directly through ebay??? I just had my first batch with checkout end last night (I was on vacation) and had 2 buyers pay without adding shippng charges. Your right...they just look at the pretty pictures

I would like to know if the customer can add the shipping charges if you have the box maked no saying they can't makes changes.I have had alot of auctions go off where they used check-out and they did include shipping. But the ones that went off today they did not.

tickledpink: Thank you for the link
to Billpoint! That was nice and easy so just hope it will work.
Also your suggestion to
go over and read the threads in the ebay checkout forums was appreciated too.

Actually if you read the news on ebay boards today you will be disapointed if you think closeing your billpoint acount end checkout in your auctions

They have stated check its self is not a payment option it a way of stream lineing the end of auction for buyer no matter what form of payment you use checkout its self is not optional the method of payments you can acept will be ...

Just thought I would post this but I got a email from Ebay wanting me to fill out a survey on checkout, most of the questions asked if I was using Checkout and if I liked it, of course I stated no and I would not use it in the future either. Did anyone else get this survey?

It took Billpoint about a week to close our account after we initially e-mailed them requesting that they close it. In the interim, we received a couple of 'checkouts' from Billpoint with....no shipping charge added!

Billpoint took a stand in their final e-mail to us, stating that checkout is optional, bla bla bla. They also told us we can no longer use billpoint if we wish to make a purchase. I thought that was strange. I did not think a person had to have a Billpoint account to pay for an auction....

We use a third party auction management service, and even though we state in the auction and again in our EOA, please do not use Ebay's checkout, a few continue to trickle in.

I don't understand this Checkout crap at all. I offer Priority, FC or Media and also ship International.

I just put the Priority rate in the shipping in my last batch of auctions. This won't help for International but I don't have to many of those, except for Canada.
