Hi everyone,

This is my first post here at AW, so if I blow it by including something I shouldn't, my apologies.

If you would like "sign" the Petition on eBay's Checkout Discussion board, you are encouraged to do so.

The link to the main discussion board is: http://forums.ebay.com/dws?14@[email protected] and the title of the Petition thread is:

"Petition to get e-Bay to give us a choice on using Checkout or not using it.... PLEASE SIGN IN!!"

It pretty much seems to remain on the first page and is recognizable also by an eBay logo next to the number of replies, which is rapidly reaching 3,000.

Hopefully, together, we can get eBay to recognize that this feature MUST NOT be made mandatory. More power to those that want to use it, but keep it off the auction pages of those that don't.

Thanks for your support.

I signed it when it first started. Just hope eBay staff reads it.

While petition are better than nothing they have little more effect than "pretty please." If eBay saw a disadvantage to the Checkout then you'd have their attention. Quite a few sellers are canceling BillPoint accounts. There's "pretty please" and "listen up buster" tactics, you decide which you think eBay listens to.

outoftheblue, or anyone else for that matter -

How do you post a "clickable" link on these boards? It's not as simple as eBay's forum.

Do I have to do an "a href"?

While I agree that the petition itself is NOT going to make eBay do an about-face, it DOES make a statement.

If I had a BillPoint account to close, I'd have done it in a hot minute, but I didn't have that opportunity.

For those of us (and admittedly it's small, relatively speaking) that want eBay to make this a TRUE OPTION, we cannot afford to let this issue die.

I just have to wonder how they can continue to call themselves a "venue"?

eBay agreement:
"3. eBay is Only a Venue.
3.1 Online Auctions. Although we are commonly referred to as an online auction web site, it is important to realize that we are not a traditional "auctioneer". Instead, our site acts as a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about anything, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of formats, including a fixed price format and an auction-style format commonly referred to as an "online auction". We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the items advertised, the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to buy items. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction."

Don't know how to do HTML on these boards, so please note the "We are not involved..." portion. And this:

"3.3 Release. Because we are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers, in the event that you have a dispute with one or more users, you release eBay (and our officers, directors, agents, subsidiaries and employees) from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with such disputes."

What about the continued complaints of buyers insisting they don't have to pay shipping because the "checkout" form indicated zero? eBay is not "involved" in this?!

How can they justify this? I don't get it.

I signed the petition when it first started. The next day I received and email with a list of ebay addresses to email with my opinions regarding the checkout and asking me to please send emails requesting it be made an optional item.

surprise, no answer to any of those emails.

There is a thread about this over at ebay, about people being hassled for comments about this.
i just went over & did a search for "checkout and not" as many people are typing in the policy box, i do not take checkout right? well...here are the results i got
173220 items found for not and checkout.
3,465 pages of them
wow
will try to find that thread on people being hassled..i am moving to Yahoo(neat new boards there to go along with the new low fees)
i am SO sick of the shillers doing great at ebay while the honest people struggle.this is ridiculous.. good luck to everyone wherever you sell to go to the special CHECKOUT board click on any auction at the bottom of page is checkout..then link more info on checkout...then click on checkout message board..this was about 5 pages back under all sellers should read this ..(HIT MORE TO VIEW THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS AT MAIN checkout chat page very interesting )
FOUND IT THIS IS CREEPY CHECK THIS OUT..HOPE I DID THIS RIGHT? thanks for the tip on how to post link ps I AM CHECKING OUT ALL RIGHT..CHECKING OUT OF THIS KIND OF TERRIBLE TREATMENT...[URL]http://forums.ebay.com/[email protected]^[email protected][URL]

I'm pissed!!!!!

Excuse me, I signed the petition and low and behold the next day I had an auction pulled for "key word spamming" Never had a problem before this!

Ebay is playing dirty pool when they harrass people for expessing their opinions.

I'm cancelling all my billpoint accounts pronto. Their attitude makes me so angry.

Can you believe it???????

I was not dumb enough to sign it. I have been around enough on eBay or anywhere else to know what happens when you advertise your opinion that strong.

Oh another reason is because I like checkout.

I signed the petition for NO TO CHECKOUT. I had no problems with my auctions but got a reply telling me when I enter my auctions through eBay I must CHOOSE no to use checkout. You have to enter your auctions through eBay directly. I'm sticking with Auction Watch to list and hoping eBay. I said something along the lines of American's having freedom of choice. I guess that doesn't hold true for eBay. I bet that notation was pulled from the eBay boards.

It was just a coincidence, I'm sure. I signed the petition and nothing has happened.

Usually, if you are flagged for keyword spamming, it is because someone turned you in for doing it. I really doubt it's a conspiracy to harrass people who signed the petition.
