Several weeks age we sold a MIB set of minature British trains to a Canadian buyer- We would not lie on the customs receip so he had to pay the customs- He said the cellophane was damaged and there were small pieces off the cars- The package was insured-Instead of taking it to the PO he started fi bu t complaining about the condition- I think he voided the insurance by foolingaround with it but I sent him enlarge photos pof the item in perfect shipping condition plus the receipt- Now he emails me that he wants a complete refund - that his friends say the engine does not work and set has bee played with- Any advice

your typo is slightly better than mine.
you can always edit it after you posted.
using post offices-us & canada to ship any parcel can yield nasty results so your buyer may be telling the truth about the condition of the item he received.
showing pictures of the item sold do not really mean much,neither is showing pictures of items after receipt by buyer.
if he used paypal,then you are going to hear that paypal does not get involved in quality or content issue,how did he pay you??
it sounds like he is not happy with the merchandise and if he is willing to pay return postage,then refund his payment in full.
after all this guy has already paid for shipping from you to him,customs and now he has to pay shipping from him to you,poor guy.
give him a break,and refund.

It seems clear to me that you shipped item MIB and it was insured. If he did not receive them in the condition you sent them, then definitely insurance should be claimed. Whether or not he fooled around to long to claim it, his problem. Sounds like you initially told him to bring it in for a claim.
I think that is why now all the sudden the engine doesn't work! So he can get his money back somehow. I would just email him that you will not receive back damaged goods from shipping and that he should have brought them in for a claim and that that is still his only recourse.
I believe shipping damage supercedes the possbility of any other. Maybe the engine was damaged in shipping??

if so then the buyer is s--t out of luck,teach him a lesson not going to a good local store to buy the set

The buyer should try to collect on the insurance and if there is anything you can do from your end to assist him would be good.
He purchased insurance and must file a claim to collect it. You are not the insurance company, so other than apologizing for the post offices mishandling, there isn't a whole lot more that you can do for him.

wowow's comments about teacing him a lesson are WAY off base. There is customer service and then there is being a doormat. :0)

before we throw the big word DOORMAT around,lets not rush into siding with this party or that party.how do we know it is MIB,plenty of items which are listed as mint or mint in box is far from mint.
i am not saying this is the case,but we have not heard from the buyer and none of us except the seller has seen the item and examine it,
a picture is a nice gesture but does not stand up in court.
but then why did the buyer fool around with the item and not go to the post office ??
there are a lot of resellers here,sometimes when they cannot resell an item,returning the item with an excuse is a way of recovering your capital and move on to shop for resale again.
thats the game folks play in cyberspace.

I guess when I wrote the post I did it too fast-This is a set of tiny trains that is set in a book type box- When you open the cover all of the pieces are displayed under cellophane in a shelf like arangement so that everything is visible-We purchased it from a collector who collected these miniatures and never used them - did not even own track-just collected and displayed them as many people do-He claimed the box was damaged, the cellophane opened and pieces of one of the cars were at the bootom of the box although htere did not seem to be any damage to the shipping carton- This was in customs for a week or so before he icked it up -anything could have been thrown on it or anyone could have sat on it- By the time he told me this he had taken it apart and "fixed the broken car" themn he took it to a meeting and the engine would not start and his friend all said it was "used"This has been goping on for weeks = he wants a refund =says he is still out 60.00 customs- can't figure that out since item only sold for 137.50-any suggestions

You do not owe him a refund. Insurance was purchased and that's what insurance is for--damage during shipping. Write him a very polite note telling him to take it to his post office and fill out the appropriate insurance forms. Note that you'd be glad to help him with the forms from your end if needed. He bought it MIB--it was damaged (either by the PO or himself) and the ball is in his court--HE needs to see what HE can do about collecting the insurance.

Ps to wowwow, maybe DOORMAT was strong, but the seller is not responsible for collecting insurance. The ball is in the buyers court.
