I tried to drop off some videos I sold on Ebay tonight at the curbside drop box, and all of them had been taped shut with duct tape (on the side where you can open the door). Only the other side (that you can only fit first class letters in) was open. Is this happening nationwide?

My Post Office no longer accepts anything other then letter size at the curbside drop off. I was told the reason is simple. People do not know or follow the rule that anything over 1 pound needs to be handed to a postal work.
That is not a new rule, it has been around along time now. But people do not bother to find out the rules and do what they want.
I was told the post office will no longer handle a package not handed to them. They are concerned about the risk more then ever. They actual said if it is left at the box it will just sit there.

SAY IT AIN'T SO!! So have all of you experienced USPS mail boxes strapped shut with duct tape and USPS employees saying they will just let suspicious boxes "sit"??
Could lead to some very negative relations with buyers!

if you cannot go to the post office when it is open, then use either ups,fed exp or one of the drop off services such as mail box etc?
or if you work in an office, leave it with the mail room clerk
