I use AW to launch my eBay auctions, so I pay to list but have no image hosting fees. Imagine my surprise today to see an image hosting fee on my AW invoice! Thankfully, AW lists the eBay auction # that it is attached to. I checked it out, and another seller is using that picture, and I got charged for it!

It wouldn't bother me so much if they had captured the picture and used it on their own server. It was a one time item. But they linked directly to it, and I had to pay for it! ARGH! Granted... it's only $.10. But a lot of those dimes would add up after awhile.

I have already contacted AW about a refund. Should I contact this seller and inform them that I was charged for this? You would think that they would know better. This seller has almost a 2500 feedback rating. Does eBay care about this (probably not)? (Their auction is already over.)

Thanks for letting me vent.

I would take a picture of some dog pooh, and give it the same file name as the picture he stole. Delete the picture he stole, and put in the picture of the pooh. Then, when someone went to look at his auction, all they would see is a picture of pooh. Another user put, "Special Holiday offer, 50% off and free Fed Ex Delivery" on the picture. Bet that made for some interesting email...

When I said, delete the picture, I mean to delete it from Auction Watch. Then put the new picture up in Auction Watch with the same name as the old picture. THis will replace the picture in his auction.

I thought about replacing the picture, but his/her auction had already ended.

Let me tell you a story about a powerseller. I can't remember the user ID but she said. Being a power seller I have no time to take pictures or to write descriptions so I take them from other auctions. Now that is a true powerseller-NOT

Sorry... guess I wasn't completely clear. I host my pictures on AW AND launch through their site. I pay for listing through them, so I don't have to pay additional fees for image hosting.

I don't know how to link directly to someone elses photo, but I know that some people do. It's been done before to other people.

You can find out where anyone has their images stored by going to the auction page, rt. click on the mouse and select view source
There is will give you all the html and address sites for everything on that page. It takes awhile to find what your looking for but with people that do it all the time they can about pinpoint the area right away. This is probably the way how they found out you were in AW. People are sneeky. They, not everyone, will try their darndest to do the least amount of work for the best profit. You can also get the images by puting your curser on the picture, up pops the box and it will say save image. They ask you where you want to save it to and you can save it to a floppy if you want to. Now I don't use other peoples pictures, but I have saved images to items that I am interested in for my beading.

some owners of the pictures who have a website may be charged for all the hits when ebay bidders view your item .
it happened to me in my early days when i asked my supplier if i can use his picture,he said yes,but what i did was just copy his url address and include in my ebay item description.
at first he was happy he is getting more traffic, then when the bill comes and no additional sales materialised,he found out i was doing it,needless to say he was not happy and asked me to stop linking.
then he found out about ebay and started selling on ebay himself.
