I had a friend who is an acomplished photographer ask me to list an item for him.
He has excellent photograph of an American Flag that he would like to create a limited edition print from and auction it on EBay. It would be 500 copies (signed and numbered 11X17) limited edition in a Dutch Auction format. He is also an ex-marine and would like to donate 25% of the proceeds to one of the 9/11 funds. (this will be determined before launching the auction and )
I have been reading that people are really getting pissed off because they think people are making a profit from the tragedy.
He is genuinly interested in making the contrubution and he doesn't want to upset anyone by him seeming to profit from the tragedy.
Cost for the reproduction is about 15 + shipping. He was thinking of selling them for about 25-30 again with 25% going to a specific charity.
Please don't jump all over me. That is why I am asking for everyones opinion first.

He is not giving away the item so AFA won't work. He wants to recoup the reprint costs, maybe make a small profit and donate 25% of the gross to a charity.
Maybe he could run an auction for a poster sized picture in AFA and run a regular auction for the 11X17.
Donate 100% of the afa and make a private donation for the profits from the limited edition.
Does anyone take offense to the picture being an American Flag. (too close to home?)

Just be forewarned, ebay is now charging $1 "gift icon fee" per item to display the Auction for America icon (if your friend lists them there). Ebay is not being upfront about this and before you list the page will say the total listing fee is "0.00" and still debit your account $1 per auction. Check out ebay's community boards under auction for america for more info. Ebay's saying at one point it's a glitch but other ebay staff are saying it's part of the contribution and disclosed (which it isn't).

Best that he runs it as a dutch auction. When they sell he can donate any dollar amount he sees fit, but at least this way he has control. Best of luck.

I would tell him don't bother he is probably wasting his time.As it's most unlikely that ebaY bidders would see any value in the item at the 25.00-to 30.00 range.
If it was in the 5.00 range he may have a chance but at the other ebaY is not the place.

I agree, unfortunatly, eBay would not realize the profits and sales your friend hopes for. Is there a local outlet you could try?
