I am curious. Although I cannot buy or sell on eBay due to a suspension for retracting a bid that I placed in error on a "US only" item (yes, it's true!), I am still able to communciate with sellers, including those who I have made several purchases from in the past. I am communicating with them through the eBay system.

During the past couple of weeks I have sent at least 10 emails to sellers asking them if they would be interested in selling their item direct if it ended with no bids (i.e. no request to end early etc.). In most cases, the items ended with no bids, but in all cases, none of the sellers responded to me with a yay or a nay or "I got your email".

I am wondering if eBay is stopping my emails from getting through. I'm not paranoid -- it's just that I expect some of these sellers to respond, even the ones who are terrified of breaking an eBay rule.

Any comments or similiar experiences?

You were suspended for bidding on a US only item then retracting and nothing else? Hard to believe.

It is difficult to fathom what might be going on, but seeing that you are now trying to circumvent your suspension by buying direct, I would not have a lot of confidence in selling to you. You are, for the moment NARU.

Perhaps ebay is building a file of your emails so they can suspend you permanently.

I would take the suspension and spend my money elsewhere until it expires.

If you have not received replies to 10 emails, the emails are undoubtedly not going through. Why don't you just register with ebay again under another username so you can start bidding again?

Yes, it is!

Here's what happened (I will try to "hide" the telling details here).

I was looking for a copy of an Offical Program. I found one and in my haste, I placed a bid. A day or so later I was doing the "my eBay" thing and noticed that the seller indicated she would ship to US addresses only. I retracted my bid, which was the only bid at the time.

The auction still had several days to run. The seller contacted me and told me she would mail the program to Canada but that the shipping cost would be more. I have absolutely no problem with paying the extra as my feedback record showed on purchases of similiar programs from other sellers. But, I had found another copy of the one I was looking for and the new seller was International. I explained that to the first seller and heard nothing back.

The first one ended up selling for a very nice price ... about $10.00 more than I bid actually.

I understand, but NARU or not, my money is still good and I have never deadbeated on anyone.

About 2 days later I get an email from eBay saying my account was being suspended for 14 days for "bid manipulation". I emailed them back, explained the circumstances, explained that I had been in contact with the seller and there didn't appear to be any hard feelings. As I had 6 or 7 outstanding bids and I knew that all of these would be admin canceled (really not fair to the sellers), I requested a removal of the suspension.

I got the "we reviewed your situation and the suspension stands" email from eBay. As I was totally embarassed by this, and due to the fact that 6 or 7 honest sellers were getting hosed also by eBay when they canceled my bids, I told eBay to cancel my membership completely and forever.

Ever try to do that?

It was a knee jerk reaction that I am now regretting, but I believe eBay treated me very unjustly. I tried a couple of times to get this suspension resolved and all I got was the hard nosed response from them.

My ID is still registered with eBay (for how long who knows), although I cannot bid, sell or chat on the forums. I can, however, still obtain member's email addresses although I think eBay is blocking my attempts to communicate with them.

All I am (was) trying to do is buy stuff from eBay sellers (I am a buyer, not a seller) and as eBay shutoff my "right" way to do this (via the bidding process), I am trying to do it the "wrong" way by maiing direct purchase offers. I have not, nor will I ask any seller to end an auction to sell their item direct. I believe eBay is entitled to their fees if the item sells in the alloted time. After that, IMHO, it should be fair game.

I have been "forced" to do a lot of direct purchasing at Bidville (a few good sellers but not as much variety) and regular bid purchases at Carnaby where I am a member (lots of great sellers but extremely limited variety).

In the 3 months I was buying at eBay, my FB was up in the 60's.

You can open another ebay account with one of your cats credit cards. With 31+ million accounts ebay will be hard pressed to catch you.

Naw, after they way they treated me there's no way I would subject one of my cats to that Besides, isn't that also grounds for suspension? I was only able to get up to Volume 3 of the eBay Policies Manual and the "creation of multiple IDs to beat a suspension" hadn't been covered yet.
