Just curious.....I know this gets posted here periodically but how are your sales going? I have noticed a big difference in bidding and my sales are down from what they were this time last year......How is everyone else doing and what seems to the worst items to list right now for everyone else....I know that new items for Christmas gifts seem to be doing well from what I've seen (and in some cases tried to bid on! ~smile~)

some of us have been checking the listings and we see pages after pages of items ending with no bids!!
some of the prices are ridiculously low, like they are liquidating their shops??
for example, murano watch with leather strap start at 9.95,no reserve, buy it now at 34.95.
there are like 10 of them listed by same sellers, now would you buy it now at 34.95 or just wait till last minute at 9.95
seller said these watches sell fo 200 in nice retail stores.
okay, the picture is dark, but they look like the real thing to me.
what is going on??
i saw many nice things ending with no bids,if i have the money i should stock up now.
may be they are all at the malls buying items at 80% markdown.

I have to say my sales were great right up untill thanksgiveing and then they dropped way off.

But my Christmas sales last year werent all that great either in the catagory I sell in but did start to pick up dureing the period after hoilday buying was over.

My sales were steady up until Thanksgiving. They have more than doubled since then.

DOWN and I don't know why. We revamped our prices and still are not selling. Constructive criticism is appreciated, but nothing else please, depressed enough...

I think prices and sales are down overall. I went in a week ago and got some bargain basement prices on some rare coins. The only thing I couldn't find good prices on was gold coins, they are holding prices pretty well.

I have also noticed some very rare coins with starting prices over $1000 that set and don't get bids. I don't think eBay is a very good venue for the higher priced stuff.

With all the lay offs, I think sales will be getting worse before they get any better.

I sell only within a few categories. However I keep my inventory diversified within my specialties as to antiquity, type, etc.

My sales are doing well, better than I expected given the status of the economy. I continue to have a 100% sell rate. There are differences between this Christmas season and last year. First, some of the things I expected to sell high did not, some of the things I expected to sell lower sold higher. Second, my regular customers are affluent individuals who are obsessive collectors. Many of the regular customers have stopped bidding or have diminished bidding because their incomes have been affected by the changes in the economy. Third, I have more buyers who are new to me and to eBay, I think brought in through eBay's national advertising campaign. Fourth, I am listing items I did not expect to list at this time in an effort to appeal to the new buyers, and I am holding back on some of my rarer items until my affluent customers regain their fiscal confidence.

Last week sales for me hit 90% with bids that met or exceeded expectations on most items. This week bids are just coming in so too early to say for sure overall.

Much of what I'm selling this year is not intended for Christmas shoppers, and that is possibly why I'm doing better than some sellers. But also, I sell what can't be found in stores so that gives my sales a boost. That's really my only secret.

Want to know what's unfortunate. It's all of the baloney which is being flung around these message centers. I am always curious about people and their opinions or "so called" facts. So I dig around and do some research on people. You know what I find...let me put it this way, before you read these things and believe someone, check out their history, their feedbacks, what they've got listed, etc. Then you will know who is actually talking from experience and who is just likes to talk. And I don't intend to hurt anyones feelings.
My sales? They've been spotty. I don't sell huge volume, primarily specialty antiques.
If you check out auction-bytes, they have a survey over the last year. Overall it shows a pretty substantial downswing in prices for the same items one year ago. I don't recall the exact percentage.
Peace in the coming new year to all

Hi flybynight2

Many people here use a different ID than they have on ebay. I am not Kiara on ebay.

I know that some sellers are doing really good right now. I buy from some of them or I follow their auctions and they have a great sell through rate. Others aren't doing so well and it all factors on what you sell and how you offer it.

I agree that there seems to be a downswing in ending prices and I also think it is a lot more difficult to sell now than in previous years.

Good luck with your sales.

This isn't my id on eBay either. Someone has this id on eBay, don't know who. When I signed on to AuctionWatch it took me over a dozen tries to come up with an id that wasn't already in use here. I assume the same is true of others who post to this forum, that the ids they use here have no relationship to their selling or buying ids.

I have the records of my eBay sales in an accounting system. Normally I don't look at comparative data but I took a look for this topic. Last year my gross income from eBay sales for the month of October was $7038.44. This year it was $6,325.70. I don't think it means my sales are down, I merely listed less auctions.

Last year for September, October and November it was $16,855.73. This year it was $13,525,72. But again, I believe the reduced income is due to less listings because I am focusing on other things in my life right now.

BAD NEWS HERE... my capture rate last year and the year before was about 90% with multiple bids. This year around Thanksgiving I had half the visits from prospective buyers on both the auctions and my web site, and my sales dropped to about 10% capture rate with only one or two bidders. Prices start at about $30 up to $300. and I have a good product that has been successful for over 20 years. I sell to a specific market many of whom are repeat customers for many years.

Maybe they are all in the same position Im in. Husband laid off, Brother in law dies,82 year old mother gone blind, no jobs even listed in the papers, my store is in deep Kimchi, and Im not about to spend any money this year for Christmas gifts. I would rather send it all to Uncle Sam to feed the poor. I plan on being in line by January.

i know some folks just like to talk, but i swear some of the items i saw listed on ebay look like they are coming from nice retail stores ,the kind of items you see in upscale malls and specialty shops.
to list a murano watch from italy at 9.95 with no reserve, shipping ups 6.95 ,they just want to get their money back??
depends where they buy these watches from, they could be losing money or do they think these watches would all be bidded up to 35 dollars, unlikely scenario.

Sales on eBay week of November 26 thru December 2, have been excellent - everything between $12 to $300.

Sales during this same period on YAHOO have been non-existant.

Our sales on special nitch auctions during this period have been good.

flybynight, I'd sure like to know how you scientifically came up with your conclusions. You've done your research, so lets see it! I don't know how you can verify everyone's i.d from here to ebay though so that does raise serious questions about your reliability as a researcher.

My sales are not great. I bought some Lenox Xmas ornaments over a year ago for extremely cheap (like $299 each). They are not selling well at all, and the people who buy them are not paying in a timely manner, or not paying at all. Some of my "modern collectibles" also do not do well. Doesn't seem worth it the pain or hassel. I also sell my old comics that are basically hit or miss. They don't do as well as I would like, so I am thinking of putting them back in storage. As for the Lenox, well, I am having a garage sale this weekend. I hope my neighbors are willing to pay more. On the bright side.....I have been buying presents dirt cheap and the quality has been outstanding! So on the buying side, Ebay has beeen wonderful and I am doing the happy dance on my own purchases!!!

Landotters

Your auctions look fine to me. You may consider extending the time to receive payments from 7 days to perhaps 10 days if you want a time limit.

With 3 days allowed to contact each other after the auction and considering weekends and slower mail, it may make bidders a bit nervous with a 7 day time frame.

Hopefully things will pick up for you.

My sales are fine, now that I don't depend on this for an income, it doesn't bother me one way or two.

LOL thank you for that smile Becky, my butt hurts right now from being glued in the computer chair the last few days.

My sales are better overall than a month ago. But most are fixed price sales of new gift type stuff, that does well at this time of year.

What is really unfortunate is when a person (who has only posted 4 comments since May 2000) rears their head to make non-productive comments here.

Everyone has a right to make a comment or opinion, but most try to make it positive.

My sales are doing well for the Christmas season and I'm trying to spend every spare moment right now listing as much as I can. Like Quickdraw, I try to list things that can't be found elsewhere. I'm also relisting items that I thought would sell in the past (and didn't) and many of them are selling now. Bids aren't very high--most of them are going for my starting bid. But--I've raised the starting bids to amounts I can live with. I plan to stop listing by Dec. 10th or so (for items to end Dec. 17th) and then schedule them to end again right after the holidays. I figure people will be home the week after Christmas and want something nice and warm to do indoors. Besides, I want some time off too, and the way this schedule is planned I'll have some free time both before and after Christmas.
